What do you think that means?
Posters are exhausted from the holiday?
Posters are trapped by winter weather. They’re busy shoveling snow?
We need an exciting topic to get them all fired up? Can’t be politics. The latest fashions? The new electronics as from CES?
What do you suggest?
There are still occasional good posts on this board, but most of the board is now some endless thread about nothing interesting or of value with each succeeding poster posting something useless or intended to one-up a previous poster.

I wish to report to the group that I am no longer rinsing out plastic bags. My means have allowed me to graduate to glass containers.

JK My means have allowed me to graduate to glass containers.
Mine, too.
BUT, yesterday, I got a burrito, in a heavy duty foil wrap that was “loose” and minimal food contamination.
And, I have a non-food use for a piece of heavy duty foil… I washed it, rubbed the creases out, and it’s ready for my project.
ralph remembered SP while rehabbing the foil.
Good ol’ SP. I wonder how he’s doing in the great state of WA? I imagine he’s still collecting rainwater and riding his bicycle everywhere.
Wished for those posters of yesteryear to come back and update us on their lives.
I learned a lot from them over the years.

My understanding is that SP has been permanently banned because of his posts on a different board.
Seattle is having a rough winter. Collecting rainwater wouldn’t be a problem. Keeping it from freezing might be a challenge.
Well, I washed out the empty big yogurt container yesterday to use for storing leftovers. We already have plenty of the small yogurt containers, which make excellent nut dishes. And also plenty of the medium-sized ones that grated parmesan comes in. But this big one will come in handy, for sure!
Also, the big-sized yogurt was on sale when I bought it and cost way less per serving than the small yogurts. So, double (or maybe even triple) yay!

Sounds like the Fungi household and the BB household are on the same page in the hymnal. Doing the same thing. Almost daily.
In spite of having more than one drawer and shelf with ‘lots’ of containers. Plastic and glass. Being just “too good to throw out”, “They’ve GOT to be good for something!”, the numbers increase.
(Sometimes, when she’s not looking, I’ll toss one. Have to. Unless we want to invest in new storage cabinetry!)
Yeah I knew about him and others banned and I can see why they chose to stay away entirely unlike others who use another computer and create different names and keep posting.
Being on the boards for so long, you get to see people’s personality and quirks. The politics and religious stances I don’t care to hear unless I agree with them. :). But I do listen to how they live their lives day-to-day and it works for them. I learn from others.

P.S. I just tossed out a lot of yogurt containers that were piled in my cabinet. I’m sure there will be others to take their place in the future to stand side by side with the rubbermaid containers of all sizes.
PPS I think hoarding is a problem and I’m trying to get rid of stuff I don’t use and it’s hard to do because of the “keep it, you might need it some day” mind-set.

That makes sense when someone posts a money-saving tip to avoid replacing an Uninterruptible Power Supply by just replacing the battery, and the first response is criticism that some other people weren’t thanked after they floated that idea on some other board, and subsequent responses are further explanations and excuses of the snark.
People have cut internet service to save money, make perfect sense
PPS I think hoarding is a problem and I’m trying to get rid of stuff I don’t use and it’s hard to do because of the “keep it, you might need it some day” mind-set.
Another question that might help to ask yourself is “How difficult or expensive would this to be to replace if it was ever useable?”
I’ve replaced less than 1% of the stuff that has been thrown out, donated or given away. Occasionally, there is a thought about something could have been used but nothing that was important.
I switched to glass containers as well, but now that there’s even more produce packaging I feel like I’m not making headway against the tide of plastic. Despite reusable shopping bags & produce bags (for the rare produce items un-pre-packaged)–and glass containers. Although I’m doing more to fight it, I’m creating more waste! I used to create 1 kitchen garbage bag of waste per week. Now it’s 2 to 2 1/2! (Also due to not using the garbage disposal any more following several expensive waste-water pipe clean-outs. And due to learning that about 1/4 of what I put in the recylcing barrel is not actually recycled by my county At least my recycling barrel is still more full than the trash barrel, but that’s cold comfort.
Well, I washed out the empty big yogurt container yesterday to use for storing leftovers.
Not really a fan of using plastic containers for leftovers.
We have Pyrex bowls of various sizes with lids. They are clear which prevents forgetting what is in the refrigerator. They go from refrigerator to microwave without fear of contamination from heating plastic. If all are in use, which did happen recently, it means that I need to use the leftovers or toss them.
Only one leftover is going to be tossed. There was a package of flavored noodles that I didn’t know its origin and didn’t hold high hopes for the results. I considered tossing it before preparing it. My low expectations proved valid.

Wendy was provided good advice on the HWTSC board. She took that information and turned it into a money-saving tip. I thought the people who provided her the information should be acknowledged. As I posted already, if you want to call that snarky, so be it. I was kind of amused by the posts that it could just be the way engineers write that can be perceived that way. With Wendy, it goes deeper than that. It wasn’t the first time she commented personally to me instead of the content of my post. In December, she labelled me bitchin’ on METAR. From past interactions, I just take it as she doesn’t like me.
So go ahead and blame me for the demise of this board. That whole thread wouldn’t have gone that way if she didn’t make a personal comment against me or even before that acknowledge the helpful folks on these boards.

Yes.
It was the day they decided to try charging us for this shitshow.

there was not-much for alternatives, then.
A bunch of folks are, now, on FB- and we have had most of these discussions already repeatedly.
Our lives are so-very-different, now.
Now if I want to talk about saving a dollar, cooking a chicken, or minimizing use of resources, I am part of a couple self-selected facebook groups, with some of my favorites from here.
or I message those folks directly.
I can’t quite quit this place, but most everyone else apparently can.
