Drone warfare evolving rapidly

Nikita Gerassimow ·

I follow this person on X. Fortunately he posts in German so he seems to slip by the censors and the bots. Unfortunately he post in German and the only way for me to read him is the click on each little post in the thread and use google translate. So I cannot link to the posts and it
is difficult to copy large portions of them.

I have linked a website where he has posted before but his last post there was in 2023.

His latest post on X goes into the latest iteration of drones and some of the tactics used. The latest evolution is the fiber optic controlled drone. This drone cannot be jammed. It has a much shorter range than the radio controlled drone, 10 km vice 50 km. But so far there doesn’t seem to be a great counter measure.

He also goes into drone that is about like a fire breathing dragon. This drone is proving to be effective at wiping out enemy positions under tree cover.

Finally he notes that China has ordered 1 million of a certain type of drone and expects shipment in a year. This indicates that the Chinese have recognized a military value and that they have the manufacturing capacity to built 1 million of this one type of drone per year.

If you can get on X or Telegram, and not get involved in politics, I recommend you follow him. His reporting is fairly unbiased, but if he leans one way it is that Russia is going to win this war. (If anyone actually wins in a war)

His posts was disturbing not because if the Russians are the Ukrainians or even the Chinese. It is the rapid evolution of the drones, the drone warfare and the addition of AI to the drones. Oh, I forgot to mention that AI is being added to the drones and it has improved accuracy.

I believe that this time next year we will be worried about something. I am pretty sure it will have nothing to do with the headlines today.

I tried and never much liked Twitter/X, I used it mostly to promote posts at my websites but that ended a long time ago. I watch random uTube videos about the Ukraine war, most are either pro one side or the other. There are quite a few about drones changing the Art of War. The latest one talked about the fiber optic controlled drone which cannot be jammed electronically. Reminds me of anti tank munitions used in the Sinai by Egypt against Israel in the Yom Kippur War with devastating effect. The uTube video talked about what Ukraine is doing about it but I don’t recall the details.

The first major conflict using drones gave Azerbaijan the edge over Armenia.

Azerbaijani drones’ targeted attacks against peaceful population of Armenia and Artsakh are in grave breach of International Law: investigation results of Armenia’s Human Rights Defender

Back then there were already commentators saying that drones were the future of warfare. The Ukraine war is proving them right. When it takes a $500,000 missile to take out a $5,000 drone, you have a Macro Economic problem! And when you cannot take out the $5,000 drone it can do $5,000,000 in damages to oil refineries and munition depots that supply the incendiary/explosive materials.

Captain,

I only recommend X with great trepidation. I am able to navigate it because I am pretty brutal about blocking anyone that posts anything political. Pretty much I only follow a fee people mostly about health, psychedelics for mental health, fusion advances, and battery advances. I didn’t even follow Elon when I held Tesla. Nope too much Horse Hockey.

I gave seen others get sucked down into a black hole of idiocy. It is the same with most other social media.

My 30 day grace period for quitting Facebook is over. So I guess I am permanently out of FB. I have never done x or any other platform and do not plan to start. I logged back on here obviously, for now anyway.
