e-Fuels gaining acceptance in Europe: Stellantis testing


This is presumably as an alternative to electric vehicle or hydrogen. Instead make a liquid fuel like gasoline or diesel fuel from renewable resources–effectively recycling carbon dioxide over and over.

Most practical route is probably fermentation alcohol to ethylene to polyalpha olefins to fuel grade hydrocarbons. This is well known technology. Capital investment required with massive capacity. Costs unknown.

Another possible route is capture of carbon dioxide and hydrogenation to fuels. Likely routes would be methanol to acetic acid to ketene dimer and then processing to right boiling range. But this is a high pressure route making investment more costly.
