Emergency 1/2 pt rate cut in October?

East & Gulf Coast Longshoreman’s strike would close all the ports on October 1st.

Union has also said that they will boycott any ships redirected to West Coast ports.

How much of the holiday season wholesale shipping has been achieved so far? Is the strike after the main thrust of wholesale buying?

There’s no Holiday season for agriculture. Goods rot in the containers at the port.

It is a bad time to stage a strike. At first glance it makes people look good or bad. It is not a huge win if the workers are forced back to work. Plus it means the person who would push them towards some sort of slave status loves it.

No waiting till November 6th?

There will be screams of inflation

I think TGG gets them into talks and insists on a big pay hike

Christmas shipping season runs from July through October, so this strike will catch the last month of it.

I see a bunch of deliveries arriving by air–or they won’t make it.

An analyst on CNBC this morning said that normally 30% of Christmas goods are shipped in October. This year it is only 20% because a number of companies moved things forward. But yes, everybody is scrambling, including air freight.

If the strike is extended (and labor is feeling feisty this year) supply chains will suffer and inflation could rise.
