Let’s dust off the “old Europe and new Europe” rhetoric from twenty years ago, when the new entrants to NATO supported the invasion, while the more established members, who were not so desperate to impress as “team players”, voiced skepticism.

I can’t speak to the EU and France, but in America we have a First Amendment which makes such statements likely to be legal. As long as it’s only speech and not action.

Perhaps the UK understands the difference between speech and action far better than US courts seem to do.

That seems to be irrelevant. He started a fire in a public place. That can be a dangerous thing to do.
Same issue. I have no problem with it as long as it is done safely.
The issue isn’t what is burned. It’s how it’s done. Reading nothing other than the single sentence included in the link, the guy was convicted of a public order offense. I suspect in the US we would call it disorderly conduct. Starting fires in public places could easily be disorderly. Start a fire in a designed space for burning? Fine. Nothing disorderly about that. Start a fire on a busy street corner? Not fine.

EU depends on the mid-east for oil. Does not want to engage their military n the mid-east.
Regardless of what they say or think, if it brings peace in the Mideast without their participation they are delighted.
