FDA limiting Covid vaccine

FDA will limit Covid vaccines to people over 65 or at high risk of serious illness, leaders say

In shift away from universal access, new studies of Covid boosters will be required for people under 65

By Helen Branswell, Matthew Herper, and Lizzy Lawrence, Stat, May 20, 2025

The Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday that it will limit access to Covid-19 vaccines going forward to people 65 years of age and older and others who are at high risk of becoming seriously ill if they are infected, and will require manufacturers to conduct clinical trials to show whether the vaccines are of benefit to healthy younger adults and children… [end quote]

I think it’s insane to deny vaccination to people who want it. What about people under age 65 who are in customer-facing occupations like restaurant wait staff? They are at risk of catching Covid and can lose work time even if they don’t end up in the hospital.

We may be done with Covid but Covid isn’t done with us. It’s as important to get Covid boosters as it is flu boosters.

Requiring new clinical trials will add cost to the manufacturers and discourage developers of other vaccines.

Grrrr…I hate anti-vaxxers, especially ones that have population-affecting power.

Dear Wendy,

The flu vaccine is also on the chopping block.

Gotta cover the “JC” tax cuts. Every little bit of defunding helps.

Hey Steve203 – what does the moniker “JC” mean? I’m a newbee. Thanks.

Hey ScouterDad, and welcome.

Although a lot of us (me too) use it, I believe Steve invented the nomenclature long ago to mean, icey cold ironically Job Creators, a term copied from decades of pols arguing for tax cuts for the wealthy.

Thanks for the reply. I presumed it was something along those lines.

Yes that is correct. (L&Ses) are the “Leaders and Statesmen” in government, usually with pockets bulging with lobbyist money, who tax the Proles to benefit the “JCs”.

Steve…sarcasm R us

Hey, Steve, what does “TIG” stand for?
Wendy

“The Incumbent Guy”, the current POTUS. That was the invention of someone else.

Sometimes you need to dig a bit deeper than the initial knee jerk…

This couple of comedians…Makary and Prasad who penned the NEJM article that was buried in the STAT link… have been very prominent anti-vaxx, anti-mask, anti social isolation (anti science in a nutshell) from the very beginning of measures to control the spread of Covid.

Here’s a link to the NEJM nonsense (getting into print in this journal is a worrisome turn of events)…

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMsb2506929

Evidence based??? I think not. Dead giveaway, the number of citations that are to articles and opinion pieces by the two authors themselves

What’s the betting that this will be incorporated into the algorithm powering answers to vaccine questions supplied by ChatGPT and the like. There goes critical thinking out the door.

Oh, forgot one “Shiny-land”. The term has shortened, over time, because I’m lazy. Used to be “Exceptionally Shiny”, a play on the “American exceptionalism” and “Shining city on a hill”, narratives that are used to excuse actions by the US that would get any other country hauled before international courts. Advocates of those narratives are “Shinies”.

Nnnoo!, and thanks VeeEnn.

The NEJM always seemed a little less stringent and reliable, but this is a collapse that truly scares me.

Thanks for the heads up, another journal added to my long list of the dead and dying.

Sigh.
