Female NY City subway passenger set afire and murdered

Will we devote the same time and attention to finding her killer as that less worthy health insurance CEO? I doubt it.

Oh they will. Ever notice the content of “Dateline” or “20/20” these days? Almost always, it is about a female victim.

The link has been updated and states police have arrested the suspect.

To my surprise, NBC “news” was completely oblivious. They babbled more about the “JC” murder. They talked about the northeastern trains being disrupted, and interviewed a woman. They talked about the ski resort gondola system failure and interviewed a woman about that. They talked about a female celeb complaining she is a victim. But not one word about a woman being murdered on the subway.

Fox Noise was on it.

The suspect emigrated from Guatemala in 2018…of course Fox is all over this.

Yes, I noticed the facts fed the Fox narrative. But it is a valid question why NBC “news” gave the story a pass.

I’m not sure what you are implying here. Is the implication that more progressive news outlets should avoid reporting about when immigrants commit heinous murders? Maybe to avoid exacerbation of anti-immigrant sentiment?

I’m not implying anything. Fox pounces on anti-immigrant news stories like a Haitian after your pets.

Of course it’s news worthy, it should be covered. Lighting someone on fire is super despicable. If the “leftist” news media doesn’t cover it, that should be questioned.

Are you sure about that?

Yes. The attack was at 7:30am Sunday morning. The NBC “news” at 6:30pm did not say a word about it. When the JC was murdered, the “news” was all over it, for days, before the suspected perp was arrested. But the murder of a homeless woman, by horrible means? Not a whisper. But they blather about Blake Lively claiming she is a sexual harassment victim.

Yes. You almost wonder about Fox’s motive. Is it care for a homeless woman’s murder? Or is it because it feeds their narrative that Hispanic immigrants are all dope dealers, rapists, and murderers?

You mean, he came in on Trump’s watch? o.0

Yeah, but Biden didn’t catch him.

Maybe that is why they call him slow Joe. :joy: :joy:

But, how newsworthy? Would it have been on Fox if it weren’t for the immigrant angle? What page would it rate in a major paper?

See why I am so disgusted with the USian media? Seems no-one cares about a woman being murdered in a horrific way. I just watched the local noon “news”. Not a mention of it.

Relative newsworthiness has nothing to do with no one cares. In any big news area, lots of murders happen all the time, but they aren’t all reported on page 1.

Fair, but just because it’s not page 1 material doesn’t mean it’s not newsworthy and shouldn’t be covered.

The only way to fight against crazy rage-baiting is for more responsible “news” organizations to cover the story.

That’s a local news show, not national. Why would local news cover something that happened several states over?

Sure, local news will cover national stories, but that national spot is going to either the biggest national story of the day or to a national story that has a local angle. This murder has neither.

It’s a shame to say that a drug addled person killing someone is not a big story, but it’s just not that big a story.

Unless you’re Faux News and have agendas to pursue. Gotta keep people afraid and riled up, you know.

The local “news” here has plenty of time to show video from the far ends of the country. There is a segment in the local news, between the weather and sports segments, I call the clown show, because it’s all people behaving badly and stupid criminals, from all over the country.

wrt murders, at least here in metro Detroit, if the vic is a young, attractive, white, woman, the media goes nuts. yapyapyapyapyapyapyapyap Then they circle back in six months and rahash it. Then they circle back on the year anniversary, and rehash it again. How many years was the media yapping about “Aruba girl”? Recently, one network has been reashing the Jon Benet Ramsey murder, yet again. yapyapyapyapyapyap But if the vic is a homeless person?
