Macro effect: Fewer available workers in total. More importantly, the people making this choice are the ones who tend to produce children who work in the professions. So the people who will become professionals will tend to be non-white and possibly born outside the US.
We have a GenZ and a Millennial. The GenZ does spout much of the same in your article: “I am 21, and as I’ve found, my near-certain choice to hold off on parenthood is a commonly shared sentiment among many Gen Z’ers and our millennial older siblings.”
Let’s remember that the oldest Gen Z is 25 this year. I suspect that many may change their minds as they become less child-like themselves, hormones and mother nature kicks in. My first desire to have a kid was in my early 30’s. Let’s let them grow up before they have kids.
I would certainly love to have grandkids, but there are plenty of kids who could use a positive factor in their lives, so if our kids chose not to have any, then I will find a way to be a positive factor in the younger generation some how. I have also already talked with our GenZ about what a great dad he would make and that there are kids already out there who would benefit greatly from his empathy, whether it’s through fostering or adoption. You can choose your own family. Being a parent of a kid already in this world was an interesting idea to him, as he is also very concerned about the future of the environment. There are options.

Yes. I was especially amused by the woman who has the list on the wall with the circles and slashes, and has worked her way halfway through the (somehow divined) “target” amount.

That is so true ! I think it’s referred to as “Doom Scrolling”, and if you click on a few of the articles then the algo sends a steady stream of similar articles to them. As older folks, we all have the life experience to know that the catastrophic events constantly forecasted never seem to happen ( The End Is Near, lol ) , but younger people don’t.
