A day prior to the Maersk vessel fire, a Hafnia Tankers vessel (Hafnia Nile) was involved in a collision with a VLCC. There was also a fire involved in this case. Due to the cargos on each vessel, the fire situation is a greater concern. The article does mention the entire crew of the Hafnia Nile have been rescued, two with serious injuries.

Per a post on METAR board, the VLCC tried to get away but the Malaysian Coast Guard have tracked down the VLCC (Ceres 1)
The Ceres 1 is known to be involved with carrying cargos from sanctioned countries (Russia, Iran).

Update on Hafnia Nile. The cargo belongs to CEPSA and they are working on a ship-to-ship transfer of cargo, prior to the vessel heading for repairs.
Wow. This could have been so much worse. How much of this is related to transponder cloaking and position fixing issues? Any?
A fully involved blazing VLCC can really wreck your morning.

I suspect turning off the transponder is, at the very least, a contributing factor in the collision between the two vessels.
