I went to a big box home and garden store today to pick up a bag of sunflower seeds for the voracious feathered ones we enjoy seeing. As I was going in, I saw a family with dad putting a large steel toolbox and a few sheets of perforated masonite into their vehicle. My thought was that it looked like dad got projects for Father’s Day. Later on I read Heather Cox Richardson’s post on fathers. I thought it is worth sharing.

My very sweet and clever sons gave me a Dino-descendent fast food dispenser (aka a bird feeder) for Fathers Day. The box says it’s a Smart Bird Feeder.
Great. I have a smart car that’s smarter than I am, a smart phone that’s smarter than I am, and now a bird feeder that’s smarter than I am.
It has a solar panel that powers a camera that is connected to my network which uses AI to identify birds that I can watch on my smart phone while driving my smart car.
I was kind of hoping it would attract a pterodactyl. That would be pretty cool. No T-Rex, but no slouch either. Plus I don’t think I’d need AI to ID it.
