I play with a new tool, the Beneish M-Score

Recently I posted a link to a free stock screener at gurufocus.com. One of their metrics is the Beneish M-Score, which I found intriguing because it’s supposed to be reasonably accurate at detecting accounting manipulation.

Here is some more on it:

So, having a new (and free!) tool, I started waving it around and poking it into various stocks. I found a cloud over these companies, many of which we’ve liked here:
LGIH ANET AVGO NVDA UBNT DAN EBAY TJX CALM CLF CRTO IDCC V MKTX MNST HASI EPR COR BXMT TSLA SCTY MAIN NFLX OTEX TROW VALU TCAP NLY INBK SIMO SYMC XLNX FTR MNKD BUD TAP

No M-Score was posted for these companies:
CSIQ CAFD HAIN SEDG IBKR SAR TEAM TLND TWLO NEE MKL HIHO NRZ BIDU F

I have a much longer list of stocks where the M-Score looks “clean,” including KITE, HUBS, SPLK, HDP, SKX, BOFI, CRM, PAYC, SQ, GOOGL, PCLN, COST, MA, FICO, SYK, EW, ELLI, AMZN, GILD, FB, DLX, GBX, FDS, NDAQ, ICE, MIDD, MTCH, AMBA, TXN, HAS, SWKS, ORLY, AZO, GPC, AGX, PLAY, CMG, NUE, SBUX, NKE, INTC, IBM.

I forgot to list SBNY as “clean.”
