Is Canada at risk?

Thank you for that. Next time you chat, please let him know he has been missed.

IP,
thinking now offers prime gloating time for all his Canadian dividend paying investments :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

In the words of Mork, “Humor har har”.

Based on something other than he got elected? What is he trying to do? In black and white terms let us know.

He is threatening Russia with sanctions. LOL Obtuse.

I would assign a non-zero probability. Trump actually told Justin, still Canadian PM, that he wants to redraw the border, lakes, everything.

I think when Trump says something, people should stop saying he is joking, or his style etc. If he thinks sovereign countries are game, so is US citizens and their rights.

Saw a news item that a park ranger who got fired and their relatives and family are cheering it. It is sad people are cheering someone losing job, especially decent people doing their job and no fault getting fired. But expecting decency, and kindness from people seems to be too much.

I guess the pendulum started swinging in the other direction and we will see it goes to other extreme.

Brace yourself.

So, how far south does the border move? And would it include–or exclude–(all or parts of) Florida? Mexico might donate the materials AND labor to build a GOOD wall to keep him IN his lifetime compound (because he is not allowed to leave). And he DOES LOVE WALLS !!!

You are not reflecting on reality. You are talking like my democratic congressman. US President openly said he will bring canadian economy to its knees and want to annex the country. He is talking about 250% tariff and encouraging Russia and China to attack Canada. His administration folks in official communications are referring canadian prime minister as governor of 51st state.

Even now, people refusing to take Trump seriously is sad.

Not really. Everyone knows he is WAY out of his depth–except guess who? MUS needs to be credible to be generally accepted and those claims are not.

What will make you take it credible? When the bombs drop??? This is what I meant, people are not taking him serious.

You have to take him serious, not literally but definitely seriously.

they question his ways but what have they done? What other ways are there? Doing what he does in a more polite way? At least he is trying.
Or, maybe these goals will be unachievable despite this good try from Trump and the Deep State. They may no align exactly in terms of methods but they pursue the same goals that are beneficial for the US and its hegemony. In that, there is unity unlike what we constantly hear in the media which are distractions and entertainments. ‘Give that to the populace! Give what they want and let us do our work.’

Like it or not, what they are doing is not really about Canada. But it has to go through Canada. Canada will have to yield to US demands. Poor Canada, oh sacrificial lamb!

Wow strong words. No need for such a tone. Some did take it as a joke but apparently you can’t… or was it a joke? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

We got our independence from the British but our fellow colonist up north did not want to leave the wing of Britain at the time. If they did we would be one country today.
So why not rectify it now? Canada can’t do much about that if that is what we want to do.

But is it really what we want to do? Maybe. It would be much simpler for the US.
Again the brouhaha is not about Canada at all but they can’t see that. Of course as an independent nation, they wish they solidly have their fate into their own hands but sadly the reality is that they do not. They have to comply to the US.

Doubling down with the exact same tone and ideology doesn’t help you say it was just a joke. You are showing some extreme egocentric nationalism.

When both sides consider it to be a good idea worth considering and examining it closely–not “just the leadership”.

Er, history books are your friend.

Canada decided to stay Canada after we invaded them in 1775. We thought it would be swell to have them join us, but strangely they had other ideas. In fact, as we have seen when one nation invades another (think 9/11, for instance) there is an unequal reaction against the invader, even if there was some support beforehand.

American Generals went into Canada promising to roust 1,000 men in a division, they barely found 200 willing to go for it, and the schism was sealed. It only got worse as thousands of USians fled to Canada during the Revolutionary War, further entrenching the anti-US position up North. It goes without saying that those who fled were Monarchists, obviously.

Over time that anti-US position has softened, but it is certain that your hero has managed to stoke it back up overnight, to the point where there are nationwide boycotts of American goods, where audiences are booing the National Anthem at sporting events, and where the once and former Prime Minister who was so far down in the polls he couldn’t see straight is suddenly as popular as he has been in years.

Yeah, we sort of sealed that one off both at the beginning, and again now. Great 4-D chess this guy is playing, I’m told.

I am ready to bet that I read more history books than you did.

No kidding. There were colonists south indeed who also did not want to leave the British crown.

Try to read it this way. The Loyalists were not called so because they wanted to become independent. Such Canada did not exist then. Even now when you go to some places in Canada you see some old folks flying proudly the British flag on their lawn.

the anti-US position softened in time because Britain lost Canada, and the US rose. Now the 2 are joined at the hip but one is much bigger and much more important. The heart, the brain and all the muscles are not on the canadian side for sure. You can rid of a kidney and continue strong. Or is it even a kidney?

I thought Trump did not have an ideology. What are you talking about?
Who said it was a joke?

a naive question: is Trump akin to the fake Santa or is he the Elf who exposes the truth?

Or is all this just an infantile fantasy?

Difficult question, isn’t it? :-

Well, I was looking for a clip of the time Helen’s father played Santa, but no-one has uploaded it. So, this is the consolation prize.

Getting back to Canada.

Trudeau accused the US president of planning “a total collapse of the Canadian economy because that will make it easier to annex us”.

My oils jumped on the threat to take out Iran’s oil export capacity. That is only 1.5Mbpd. TIG revoked Chevron’s license to obtain oil in Venezuela, possibly as an opening salvo to blockade Venezuelan oil exports. That only takes 500,000bpd off the market. Mexican crude is facing the full 25% tariff, so Mexico is shopping it’s oil elsewhere, as they have the means to deliver oil elsewhere.

Occurs, that, if the US refused to import oil from Canada, to try to “bring Canada to the table”, and Canada only has the ability to ship 800,000bpd elsewhere, that would take about 3Mbpd off the market. There would be great celebrations in Houston.
