It's time for me to abdicate!

Long walks with wife, chinese checkers and picking up a new mystery book sounds like retirement done right! What is wealth good for - if not to buy you back your time.

Like many others on this thread, I have immensely benefitted from the teachings on this board. Every post here is a wealth of knowledge. And it is that way because of the continuous curation of the highest level.

So I wanted to say I am thankful to you Saul and grateful for all the lessons and wealth of information sharing. I wish you the very best always.

Cheers,
Ryshab

Dear Saul,

You have imparted one of life’s greatest gifts to me and my family without ever having met us. Your generosity in sharing your investment knowledge, life wisdom, and time is beyond words. While I am sad that you will no longer be in a leadership role on this board, you continue to be a role model in how you choose to enjoy your life with mystery novels and long walks. May we all be so lucky.

Best wishes for you and your family.

Gratefully,

Dear Saul,

I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for all the time, energy, and knowledge you’ve generously shared over the years. Your openness, willingness to teach, and incredible dedication have truly made this board a one-of-a-kind place to learn how to invest.

For me personally, the way you shared everything you did—without claiming to have all the answers but simply showing how you invest enabled me to guide myself and achieve my own very early retirement. I can’t thank you enough for that; your transparency and approach empowered so many of us to find our own paths to success.

Thank you again, Saul, for everything.

Warmest regards,
DJ

P.S. If you’re ever traveling through Frankfurt, you are cordially invited to dinner, a drink or whatever you you’d have time for.

Hi Saul,

I have learned valuable information about investing from everyone here, thank you for running this forum for so many years now. As you’ve recommended, I’ve read and re-read every post here. In those you’ve posted, I don’t recall any hint of selfishnesses, quite the contrary. That’s not to say you haven’t challenged people, quite the contrary. Often in them you write about your intentions and how they might be taken as the quite the opposite, by some.
You’re generous in your explanations regarding what you do and why you do it. You often write about doing what is ‘reasonable’ and I’ll admit to having found you completely reasonable. Why then are you so often not like anyone else?
I’ll never say your a contrarian, in the conventional sense. The words that I would use to describe your contributions include kind and patient, as well as generous.
Much more important to me than my learning from you how to be a better investor, I believe I’m a better person having gleaned some of your attributes, whilst I was learning about investing, from your contributions here. I am, at least trying to be, kinder, more patient, and on occasion generous.

Lots of Love,

Jason

Wow, so many wonderful posts of appreciations. And more came as emails. I’m only sorry, as I wrote before that I just can’t respond to each and thank each person individually. Thanks to all of you!

Saul, you’ve been a huge inspiration, showing us what’s possible with focus and dedication. I’m very grateful for everything you’ve taught us! Before finding this board, I was a ‘Boglehead,’ but I’ve nearly tripled my portfolio in just a couple of years since I started lurking.
Your impact on the well-being of so many people is so far-reaching… It truly boggles the mind!

Hi Saul,

It’s great to hear you are enjoying your time, exploring and spending time with loved ones. That’s at least one point of this investing exercise for most of us, isn’t it? Having additional resources can be part of increased freedom. For this post, though, we can leave the other paths to being empowered/desireless (see e.g. Buddha) aside. Achieving investment success and sharing information and skills here has been very helpful to many of us, and you paved a way.

Anyway, i look forward to your future contributions, always appreciated your viewpoint and comparing it with others, and have enjoyed our walk together on the investment path. Enjoy every day. Thank you Saul, and thanks to the Fool for the forum for us to meet and share.

All the Best,

Bill

Saul,
I have been dreading this day since quite some time as we all knew it would come and here it is. You abdicate!
So now it’s tome for us mere mortals to thank you for your wisdom, guidance, knowledge and transparency. You have created something absolutely awsome in this discussion board. Many of us have benefitted financially and personally. At least I sure did. What you preach sounds so easy but above and beyond technical stuff and hard work it takes a lot of good judgment and common sense. You certainly have a lot of this (or a time machine - see just your timely exit of TMDX). We all will miss this and you a lot. It is rare to find so excellent yet humble people who are willing to spend a lot of time and energy to share and teach.
It has been a thrill to discover this discussion board long time ago and is has been a thrilling ride. Will I ever learn to sell?
Thank you, Saul, for the knowledge, the good discussions, the brilliant insights, the humbleness and your willingness to let us all participate.

Saul–

Your abdication is further testimony to the brilliant and rare mind you are. Many leaders are afraid to follow, and especially to relinquish the stations they have rightfully earned. You have lived an inspiring life, Saul. Best wishes in the next chapter. I do believe it will be equally inspiring.
