iTunes dying, need replacement

Hi, my iTunes doesn’t work any more, on two computers. I can’t listen to my music that I have collected over decades! It kept saying “not enough memory” then crashes, and now I can’t even open it at all.
I feel too damn dependent on all these computer software companies that can screw up my life on a whim. Our lives are so dependent on these computer companies, it’s scary. The computer problems I’ve been having lately seems to be escalating fast. I spend more time dealing with software issues than I do working!

So how do I listen to my music now? What alternatives are there? And unfortunately my iTunes music is in the iTunes file formats, not MP3. So now I’m dependent on Apple!?

If I could click my heels and go back to pre-computer days I’d do it in an instant.

Any help before I lose all my hair, LOL!
Thanks, Rick

More info needed please. Seems like there must be an easy remedy. What device and OS? What iTunes version? Can you post an image of the error message?

I got it working again but iTunes is so iffy that I need a backup method of playing Apple Lossless files. Any good programs out there that I can use if iTunes keeps giving me trouble? In general I dislike Apple products anyway, so I wouldn’t mind moving on to something new.

I’m on Windows 10 computers. iTunes 12.4.0.119. I do not want to upgrade to the newer versions. I can’t remember why, but quite some time ago when I upgraded it screwed everything up big time, so I won’t upgrade. I wish I could remember what happened, but it was BAD!

Well, even in the Apple/Mac world, iTunes has left the scene, gone, replaced by the Music app, to me, as a Mac user, I never understood why Apple felt the need to develop a Win version of iTunes. Maybe it was an easy port, or was someone’s pet project…

On the Mac iTunes was handy, as it was useful to organize our iOS apps on iPhones, as well as music, so that went away as well… So they split off the iTunes functions to separate apps, or they just went away, dealt with on the iPhone itself, or, within Music, or Podcasts, etc… Folk found 3rd party apps to fill the gaps…

Have fun, time marches on, whether we try to keep up or not!

Does anyone know of a good non-Apple app for installing endless numbers of CD’s for organizing and playing?

CDs and a thing of the past. Like vinyl I expect somebody is selling hardware - but also like current vinyl equipment the volume will be small and the cost very high.

I gave up on CDs about 20 years ago and even downloads a couple of years ago. Apple Music works just fine. I use Sonos speakers.

I didn’t mean a CD player. I meant software like iTunes but not that and not Apple, that I can upload CD music to on my computer. I put the CD in the computer and copy it to the iTunes library. Just want to find an alternative to itunes

I’ve used Media Monkey 20 years ago as a free music library organizer and player. It was pretty good. I assume it’s only gotten more capable since then. See https://www.thewindowsclub.com/mediamonkey-a-universal-alternative-to-windows-media-player

MediaMonkey digital media player for Windows 11/10

MediaMonkey is used to organize and manage various media types, including music, classical tracks, audiobooks, podcasts, and videos. It allows users to navigate their collections by artist, album, composer, genre, or playlist, supporting multiple attributes per field for efficient media management.

Its free version lets you manage a music library of 100 to 50,000+ audio files and playlists, whether Rock, classical, Audiobooks, or Podcasts, whether located on your hard drive, CDs, or a network. It also lets you sync with iPhones, iPods, and most any MP3 phone or Audio Device.

Thanks! I’ll take a look. It’ll be nice to have an alternative in case iTunes really goes belly up. I got it working again but it’s been troublesome more and more.
