Kitchen Sink Faucet Foibles

It was also a very successful Xmas Pizza party, previously missed, but now reset, amazing to see the growth of the youngsters… Pizzas & Pitchers!

An old thread, the same/similar problem, only instead of the spray head, this time it’s the 5’ flex hose leaking, dripping back under the sink, unnoticed until the weekend, naturally… So last time, Amazon wouldn’t ship the spray head to CA, so I had it shipped to my in-laws in NV… Well now, once again, the flex hose, they won’t ship to CA… See the screenshot below,

Went to our local hardware chain, Freidman’s, he says they can’t even get them, Kohler has them locked out, so maybe the local Ferguson Supply house might have one, but I’m kinda fed up… Maybe just call my plumber, replace the whole faucet assembly… Maybe he has a known solid brand, be done with Kohler… Moen, Pfister, Grohe, ??? Existing is white, but… And some are now hands free… Decisions, decisions…

Hi @wecoguy,

I get this ‘undeliverable’ message if I order a large item and have my PO Box as the address. All I have to do is switch it to my street address.

If that isn’t the issue, I would call AMZN customer service and find out.

Does that help you?

Thanks Gene, but, as I found earlier with the spray head it was our CA regulators and their flow rate limitations. Whereas NV has no such rule… The federal standards set the maximum flow at 2.2 gpm . States were allowed to set tighter restrictions , and some did, like CA, set it at 1.8 gpm, apparently… Amazon must have been burned, so are stopping them from shipping to me… Since the hose has no restrictor, I don’t understand why this applies, but… Pulling the Specs I see at Kohler it is a 2.2 rpm unit… Also Discontinued…

If you do go with a whole new unit, forget mail order. Go local.

(Out of curiosity I checked Costco. Nothing in white.)

Interesting, I hadn’t checked Costco, but yes, current plan is to check with my local, favorite plumber, see what they know, like, and go from there, so far the only demand is White! Hopefully I can talk with them tomorrow… This one was priced at $396, but I’d bought it for $20 at a local flea market, a contractor was clearing his warehouse, I guess, didn’t have the hose, but I ordered one in 2017, no problem…

Maybe this one?

Nope, that would be too easy! Kohler has their proprietary connector it seems, you can see it in my earlier note, and they had shipped me one in 2017, but now I guess the rules have change, and they won’t direct ship to me in CA. So the plan is to just replace it, I’m in touch with my plumber, just sent them a photo, the old specs, see if they can find a White replacement. Everything I’m seeing is Chrome, Stainless, doesn’t fit the situation here… He’s on an all day project today, but maybe get back to us later. Just want a decent, mid priced white faucet, so cost is not the issue… If he can find that hose locally, all the better, it’s just irritating that Kohler discontinued the line, and that CA rules are gaming this, gpm are not realistic limits for a sink faucet, you will use what you need, rate of flow is a stupid limit…

Anyway, thanks for looking…

I am confused.

Are you looking for a replacement hose or a faucet?

I can read your last post as you have changed you search to a replacement faucet that is not stainless street or brushed nickle.

Initially just the hose, but that flunked at Amazon, because they won’t ship it to CA, so now we moved on, looking for a white replacement faucet… And the installation by our plumber, or one of his crew that is more flexible than me!

You white color requirement is bit like wanting a car for less than $100K with a 4 speed manual transmission – damn few if any.

My goal for our replacement faucet was something with more than 1.5 gpm - I quickly determined Delta was the only supplier.

So

Right, and after talking to our plumber this evening, in the end we gave up on the white, went all the way to Matte Black, looked around some more at build, com and Amazon, and in the end ordered via Amazon, returns are so easy, price a little better, be here Wednesday… Work out the install timing with our guy once it’s here… He said he couldn’t do any better as the supply house would have had to order, likely a week more, so said to go with what we find… But avoid the big box shops, too much plastic, won’t last… So a couple hours of his or his helper’s labor, I know I can’t crawl around under there!! Progress!

Read the fine print on your Moen faucet at the Moen website. Every Moen kitchen faucet I have looked at is a 1.5 gallon per minute or the insane 1.2 gpm.

Worse yet. those flow rates are at 60 psi and it is noticeably less at the 50 psi I choose to run in our house. (I don’t need to get a stop watch to see the difference between 60 and 50)

Oh, I understand, that’s why they, Amazon, wouldn’t ship the Kohler repair part to me here in CA, so we’ll trash the Kohler and move on… We’re retired, long time, not worth fussin’ over small things…

One more note is that our plumber reminded me that the parts number for the big box shops all begin with an 8, use plastic internal parts, to cut costs, save them a buck on mass orders… But he likes Moen’s Limited Lifetime Warranty, good toknow, however short that might be…

Well there is good news and other news. Yes it exists. But the warranty parts are not the original. For example I got a replacement kitchen faucet - it was chrome plated plastic - not the original chrome plated zinc. I got a replacement for a brush nickel or stainless steel bathroom sink stopper – it was thin aluminum.

My original Kohler faucet was probably old stock the contractor had, minus the hose, in his warehouse, so when I had it installed in 2017, it was already aged a bit, so we had 7 or 8 years of use, for a $20 flea market find, since then the rules here changed, se we were stuck. We were willing to go with whatever our plumber liked, but as he said, he can’t match the Amazon delivery time, even going through his supplier as even they don’t stock every possible faucet. The one we picked, in the end is new, a but different tech, so we’ll see how it works out, odds are it will outlast us.

An advantage we have by going with Amazon, even with repair parts is the ease of returns if it’s garbage, give it a bad review, turn it in at our local Whole Foods store… Instant refund, etc… Considered ordering 2 different styles, return the one we didn’t like, but in the end narrowed it to the final single order.

I managed to find one each white Moen, Delta and Pfister. :sunglasses:

Well, 2 of the 3 can ship in a few weeks out, only one was in stock. We looked through build.com, didn’t find one DW liked, one was the same as what we found at Amazon, a few dollars more… After we flipped to Black Matte…

So far the air gap and faucet have shipped, the soap dispenser is still showing delivery tomorrow…

1/22/25 - Update: All parts arrived today, called the plumber, next opening is Friday, 12:30-3:30, acceptable for all of us! Be glad when it’s done!

1/24/25 - Update 2: My plumber arrived on time, installed all the parts, charged us for an hour, and it’s just peachy, will take getting used to the newness, but it also gave us a chance to organize under the sink better, I grabbed another 32Q Starlit bin, like the one we had, I trimmed it down in the rear to clear the various pipings, as I had done with the 1st one, so it’s also another layer of protection from spills, I left a 1: rim on the back edge, and chopped out a gap so the dishwasher detergent bottle fits easily from the front… so in effect nearly destroyed the 32Q bin, but it does what we want, tossed the lid…

Sadly, another problem popped up later, the Whirlpool side by side water filter I replaced last week, leaked, it was a 3-pack off brand, I think it’s O-ring was not in place or pinched, and of the 3-pack, I could only get that one to fit in like it belonged. Returning those 3 to Amazon, Ordered the Whirlpool OEM filter, be here tomorrow… Then all three of the failed ones go back to Amazon… Lesson learned…
