Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii looks like a war zone

This was actually leading the evening news tonight, even ahead of the daily “severe weather” hysteria. I get that the fires are aided by what looks like a Hawaiian version of the Santa Ana winds the help burn down California every fall. But how did the fires start? This all seems to have blown up in a day.

There are house fires and brush fires every day that would have been quickly extingushed by the Fire Dept, but for the blowtorch of hurricane force winds.

Lahaina was Hawaii’s original capital, whaling village, and charming town with many buildings dating back to the 1800s, including one of the oldest high schools west of the Mississippi. Front Street which is the historical district and main tourist area has been completely burned down, along with big swaths of the residential areas. Tragic loss. Some before and after satellite photos at the link.

Reminding me of the firestorms we had here in Sonoma County, CA a few years ago, high winds, there is no way to fight it, it even burned out the local fire station… BIL, other friends lost everything…

A lot of the photos remind me of the Paradise fire.

Why are there so many hidden posts lately??? How do I unlock them? Do I have to pay? Ridiculous.

They are hidden because they were flagged. Could be spam, could be a violation of the Ts & Cs, could be profanity or masked profanity, etc.

There is no payment to see them and the authors have the opportunity to edit and repost if they can change them in an appropriate way.

Both that I see are long time, valuable posters, are they aware of the problem? Hard to imagine a problem amongst grownups… Well, we think we are…

Every pulled post receives notifications. And given that they didn’t edit and repost, I’m going to give them credit for being grown ups.

Well, you only have 10 minutes to edit your post according to the email they send you. And I still have no idea what caused the flagging. The email they send says the community flagged my post. If you have no idea what might be the issue you have no way to change or avoid the issue. And looking at the flagged posts before mine would seem to indicate they are flagging the discussion of the issue.

Since the notification doesn’t explain the problem how would they be aware of the problem?

I am utterly puzzled why quoting merely the name of one of the most famous and ancient of all beloved nursey rhymes brings on the guillotine with no explanation. And for the life of me I cannot even guess with my most cynical mind at full volume what the problem is.

Destroyer of posts, why?!!

I would expect David’s post to be flagged within minutes.

But, I also wonder what the issue is.

Not-so-good “A” but terrible “I”?

Like I would even know within 10 minutes. I check my email maybe once, tops twice a day.

Seriously, these are all censored because of a nursery rhyme? Or what is it, really?

It’s flagged by “The Community”.

Or is it just one (or 2 or 3) member?
Is TMF allowing an extremist minority to determine what we ADULTS are “allowed” to “see/read/think”?

I have to note that this type censorship is very in vogue in “America”.

Or is it TMF corporate policy? (The TMF JCs are using “the community” for cover?)

Remember the post about Gray Rock?
Lawyers routinely tell their clients to not answer any questions.
TMF gray rocks these type posts.
The only recourse is a FOIA legal request which corporations try to ignore.

I’d have to guess that someone (someoneS) are messing with us.

For those that are still following this thread, and may be considering donating to help the people of Maui, I did some research on various donation options, and found that the United Way of Maui seems to be a low cost direct provider of services on the island. Please check out their most recent 990 on their website and donate here.
