I just saw one of the Oregon Senators on TV bragging that he “got insurance to reimburse you for the cost of an air conditioner” in the new Bill (i.e., Inflation Reduction Act). What?
U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden urged insurance companies including Kaiser, Samaritan and Regence BlueCross BlueShield to cover the costs of those devices, which are not primarily medical but serve to keep seniors healthy and alive during periods of high heat. Under the rule, Medicare insurers are allowed but not required to cover air cooling and purifying machines.
Of course, your for-profit heath insurance CEO will have to calculate the effect on Executive Compensation first. I wouldn’t head to Home Depot or Lowes just yet.
