Mon dieu! French fast food

France is #2 in fast food consumption. And you don’t want to know about the per capita number…

The food quality in Europe far exceeds the US. We have additives in our food that they have banned over there. I think it was Subway that couldn’t claim their sandwiches had “bread” because they didn’t meet the standards of “bread” in Europe.

I’ve been there (in several countries), and I read labels. Their stuff is so much cleaner than ours, it’s an outrage that our FDA allows this crap into our food.

Their “fast food” is far better than ours, as a rule. At least in terms of noxious ingredients.

When we travel, we often eat local budget food. Cafeterias in grocery stores in Portugal, 7-11 in Japan and Korea, etc. They mostly put us to shame.

The word “bread” has special meaning in Europe. Their ag economy is based on cereal grains (bread and beer) from ancient times. Bread is symbolic of food. A national that cannot provide bread fails to feed its people. Bread prices are subsidized some places.

And they have far more bread varieties than we do. Bread is local and highly specialized.

Does that review include a breakdown between tourist consumption vs. French? I ask because France is consistently number one in countries visited by tourists including over 100 million in 2024. Much of the French fast food may be consumed by tourists.
