Interesting that more than 1M shares were purchased at $61.3765. If I’m not mistaken, that’s the highest price Berkshire has paid to date.
I’m a bit surprised. Now that we’re over 20%, obtaining the lower tax rate on dividends is no longer an issue, so either Buffett still thinks it’s a great value (even better than repurchasing Berkshire shares, for instance) OR he really is thinking of taking over the company. I lean towards the latter view, and since I expected he would stop buying at 20%, unless the price dropped a lot, this recent purchase seems to me to increase the likelihood of a takeover.
