From the link:”He decided to map the distribution of audits to illustrate the dramatic regional effects of the IRS’ emphasis on EITC audits. Because more than a third of all audits are of EITC recipients, the number of audits in each county is largely a reflection of how many taxpayers there claimed the credit, he found.

Yep them folks might be making false claims wasting tax revenue from our overtaxed top 10%./sarcasm.
Well with the addition of 87 thousand IRS agents we’ll put a stop to that!

I wonder how much extra tax revenue would be gained if audits were concentrated on the top 10%. Isn’t that where the money is?

<Hint: it ain’t Loudoun County VA> [The county with the highest median income in the nation at $130,000, thanks to the IRS pouring your tax dollars into the pockets of federal employees, lobbyists, and contractors.]

The five counties with the highest audit rates are all predominantly African American, rural counties in the Deep South. The audit rate is also very high in South Texas’ largely Hispanic counties and in counties with Native American reservations, such as in South Dakota. Primarily poor, white counties, such as those in eastern Kentucky in Appalachia, also have elevated audit rates.

The states with the lowest audit rates tend to be home to middle income, largely white populations: places like New Hampshire, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Pastor Bill,

Now that we will have 87,000 new IRS revenue agents and auditors, I expect them to expand their efforts from just going after the low-lying fruit. Hopefully, billionaires, mega-millionaires, and self-employed professionals will become targets for a change, even if it means that the revenue officers and auditors have to be prepared for pushback from people with the money to fight them.

Revenue officers advance a lot faster by bringing in a steady stream of cash from small fry than they do by fighting for years trying to pry gold from the claws of the shrewd college-educated big-time tax evaders.

If the new 87,000 auditors and officers get bogged down and frustrated by the rich, powerful, and skillful tax-evaders, they’ll be right back to auditing poor Mississippi catfish farmers, waitresses, and real estate agents - the kind of folks who cough up whatever they have just to make the tax man go away.

I do not think there will be 87,000 IRS agents in the next 12 months. This is a 10 year program and they will not be worried about rich, powerful and skillful tax-evaders. They will just look at the deductions claimed and the backup for those deductions. Facts trump stealing from the public. They will settle instead of going to jail like al Capone and others.

The IRS agency head was appointed in October 2018, Rettig.

The full idea is to waste IRS resources to avoid auditing the wealthy.

Collusion.
