It looks like HW3 is not going to produce FSD…
Believe NOTHING THAT YOU READ,
and only HALF OF WHAT YOU HEAR.
Just listen to the Tesla quarterly webcasts with your own ears…
good luck to all💥
I agree with that since FSD was supposed to be out awhile ago. This next blurb was directly off of the Transcript from earnings call.
Elon Musk
Yeah. I mean, I think the honest answer is that we’re going to have to upgrade people’s Hardware 3 computer for those that have bought Full Self Driving, and that is the honest answer and that’s going to be painful and difficult but we’ll get it done. Now, I’m kind of glad that not that many people bought the FSD package.
I should probably just keep my mouth shut, but anyway…
The title, Musk admits FSD not happening, is at best a gross distortion. An awful lot of cars have HW4, and he most certainly said that FSD will work on that. And he said that FSD will be happening for cars with HW3 after HW3 is replaced with an upgrade.
Stated more simply, the subject of this thread is bull.
If one wants to dump on Musk, at least try to stick to the facts.
I am not sure where you received you information but it would be nice if you gave some facts instead of opinions. In the conference call Musk made it clear that the releases for HW3 were going to trail HW4. He also made it clear that he would need to upgrade HW3. It is all in the call.
Make that is going to upgrade HW3, and it should all be clear.
Right but We don’t know if he is going to upgrade them to HW4, which would make sense, or make them just better with HW3 which isn’t good enough.
Even Musk agreed that he has commented to many times that he was FSD right around the corner. I believed him the other times, I think I have the right to disbelieve him this time.
You are free to disbelieve anything you want about FSD. I won’t dispute the justification for that.
But he has said in the past that if HW3 can’t do the job there would be a hardware upgrade for those who with HW3 who paid for FSD. And now he has said that it looks like HW3 can’t do the job. Hence, we* get the hardware upgrade.
*(That we includes me. I paid $15k for FSD three years ago, so I have been following this issue rather closely, not just since this last bit of news.)
I hope you get HW4, you deserve it since you have been waiting.
It might not be limited to the ones who already paid for FSD. Tesla was pretty unambiguous in claiming that Teslas were being sold with all the hardware necessary for FSD. Regardless of whether someone actually paid for FSD at time of purchase, the company represented to them that the cars had all of the hardware necessary to become self-driving with future software updates. If that ends up being incorrect, Tesla might be on the hook to pay for the upgrade for anyone who has HW3 - whether they have already bought FSD or not.
At least one owner was able to get Tesla to pay for the HW2.5 to HW3 upgrade on that argument, though Tesla never contested the small claims suit so who knows whether that would withstand an actual defense.
I agree. I just didn’t want to get into that complexity.
