Food vs. Climate, EAT BUGS!

Strange that I hadn’t heard about the protests by the Netherlands Dairy Farmers about cutting nitrogen emissions

Dairy Farmers in the Netherlands Are Up in Arms Over Emission Cuts

Goals of cutting nitrogen emissions in half by 2030 have caused an uproar in the Netherlands. Climate activists say the cuts are necessary to preserve nature.

Every electric train on the Dutch railways NS network now gets 100 per cent of its energy from wind energy.

NS Dutch Railways has partnered with energy company Eneco to use its wind turbines to generate the energy needed to power all of its electric trains. The pair had hoped to achieve this milestone by 2018 but managed the feat as of January 1 this year(2017).

I don’t understand the 100% claim. What do they do when the wind dies down – run fewer trains?

What I don’t understand is what running Dutch trains on electricity has to do with the Dutch dairy farmers plight and protest. Is this CIA misdirection? Kremlin disinformation? Chinese FUD? Climate Catastrophe Crisis Control (CCCC)? Most likely the 4Cs.

Please explain!

They probably do something similar to the system described in the following link. Its really just an accounting sleight-of-hand. The train system gets its electricity from the same power grid all of the other generators supply.

https://thebreakthrough.org/issues/energy/is-apple-powered-b…

From the link:
Almost always, when you read about a city or company procuring 100% of its electricity from renewables, that entity is indeed consuming a lot of electricity from solar and wind, which is great. But when the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing, electricity comes from whatever else is on the grid: coal, natural gas, nuclear, hydroelectric dams, and the like. The “100%” claims usually come from renewable energy credits (RECs). The entity sells RECs when it is over-generating wind and solar, and buys them when it is under-generating. This allows the entity to achieve 100% renewable electricity in an accounting sense, even while the actual machinery powering it at any given time might be well under 100% renewable.

Its all greenwashed nonsense. But that is the world we live in.

From the following, we can see the electric generation mix for the Netherlands. Looks like fossil fuels still make up the majority. People expect the light to turn on when the switch is flipped. A passenger train system needs to run on time, afterall. The reliable and dispatchable generators, which usually come from fossil fuels, make sure the power is there when needed.

Its all part of the efforts to cut down on the emissions of greenhouse gases. Livestock emit nitrous oxide and methane. Running passenger trains on wind power supposedly reduces carbon dioxide emissions in the electric power system.

Are you willing to give up eating meat, for the sake of saving the planet? If the demand for meat protein is still there, then the Powers That Be will eliminate the supply, or make the product so expensive, you won’t be able to afford it. Problem solved. The Planet is Saved. That’s the theory, anyway. In reality, China and India are burning so much coal, the atmospheric CO2 concentration is going higher every year, and will continue to do so, whether or not you become a vegan.

I used to have a sailboat with a diesel auxiliary and a plug to shore power, solar panels and a wind turbine.

It was not a sailboat but a diesel motorboat according to the “greenwashed nonsense” doctrine.

Perfect is the enemy of good is an aphorism which means insistence on perfection often prevents implementation of good improvements. The Pareto principle or 80–20 rule explains this numerically. For example, it commonly takes 20% of the full time to complete 80% of a task while to complete the last 20% of a task takes 80% of the effort.[2] Achieving absolute perfection may be impossible and so, as increasing effort results in diminishing returns, further activity becomes increasingly inefficient.

Livestock emit nitrous oxide and methane.

Humans emit CO2, CH4, and bad odors.

Are you willing to give up eating meat, for the sake of saving the planet?

No. Why not get rid of humans then we won’t need cattle?
