Nothing on Horizon to Rival Dollar’s Status, Fed Study Finds

(Bloomberg) – The dollar’s prime international status remains unchallenged, according a study by Federal Reserve Bank of New York staff, despite challenges from sources including geopolitics and technologies like digital currencies.

“The dollar’s international role, whether for trade, investment or use as a global reserve currency, remains quite strong, with nothing on the horizon likely to rival it,” authors Linda Goldberg, Robert Lerman, and Dan Reichgott wrote in a blog posted Tuesday.

Nothing on Horizon to Rival Dollar’s Status, Fed Study Finds

To have a currency worth its salt there has to be an economy backing it…

China?
Russia?
Brazil?
India?

Last I heard Japan was going to take over the world. What happened?

Not to worry – too much.

Last I heard Japan was going to take over the world. What happened?

Years ago, I don’t recall when, there was some fuss over the fact that Japan (collectively) was the #3 foreign investor in US equities and physical assets, and buying more at a rate that would - if continued - in a few years have it pass the then-top two.

Someone looked over the data and found that while this was literally true, Japan was NOT the country buying those US assets the fastest, and by the time it passed the then-top two, those two countries would be #4 and #5… and Japan would still be #3, because two other countries would have passed all three of them. If I remember correctly, one of the latter two countries was Denmark.

(None of the countries involved in the above make decisions about out-of-country investments collectively.)

True but irrelevant to my thesis. Is not government that owns the majority of American wealth, it’s ‘We the People’ as it should be. It’s only in socialist dictatorships that governments own everything.

The problem with the non stop preaching is you keep forgetting that is not Germany. You keep equating that to the USA’s future as if to become Venezuela.

I am not seeing any parallels to any reality.
