First there must be agreement on the definition of what an Autonomous Weapon system is.
Determine if limits of use of such systems can be agreed upon.
And an agreement that the country using them is responsible for their use. A glitch in the AI program is not a justifiable defense.
When AI Decides Who Lives and Dies
The Israeli military’s algorithmic targeting has created dangerous new precedents.
Investigative journalism published in April by Israeli media outlet Local Call (and its English version, +972 Magazine ) shows that the Israeli military has established a mass assassination program of unprecedented size, blending algorithmic targeting with a high tolerance for bystander deaths and injuries.
And we know Ukraine utilizes AI in its drone warfare.
How long before missiles are AI controlled?
Time to settle up on agreed use.
Advanced Analytics already dominates the battlefield. Radar triangulation and point response has a solution on it’s way to an attacker before the attacking firepower has even landed.
Satellite data meshed with ground and sound signals track movements over the horizon.
Everything in the article is just rebranded evolution of current data systems.
These are limited to interpretation of events which have already occurred.
There is no AI here, it’s just a shortening of the interpretation and action cycle.
Shortening the OODA loop wins, as usual.

As per almost all history, I expect we will see new international control agreements only after we are thoroughly traumatized by our own drunken sleepwalking into massive carnage and destruction.
We lucked out that the two nuclear explosions of WWII happened in a timely fashion, and scared everybody sufficiently to set up all manner of agreements through to the Reagan/Gorbachev agreements.
KABOOM with mushroom cloud was a perfect stimulus, Advanced Analytics possibly growing into Terminator 5 is just a movie until half the world has dead cousins…
