It’s interesting to see Musk finally speaking out, albeit weakly, against some of Trump’s policies for the first time. He did note that the budget bill would increase the deficit
I believe he comment that a budget could be big or beautiful; but not both.
The removal of the 30% ITC for solar and energy storage would significantly slow down Tesla’s energy storage business, which has been its only growing business for the last two years.
Elon Musk is starting to realize, or at least admit, that Trump and the GOP are going to hurt Tesla greatly by removing battery and solar incentives without removing incentives for fossil fuels.
Musk…then added that while the government that he helped elect is removing incentives for electric vehicles and clean energy, it is not removing those for oil and gas
I don’t see this as ideology (other than the “I want all the money” ideology) or some kind of principled stance.
We know who this person is, now.
Leon is trying to pivot politically to appear more appealing to the natural customer base for EVs. Hence all of the “distancing” from the executive branch while Tesla sales tank.
Thing is, he has shown that he is not a naturally strong politician, it is not really his personality to be a schmoozer like say, Lil Marco (and name any other cabinet member).
Compare Leon to the other legions of CEOs who stay under the radar and quietly schmooze the mad king the old fashioned way.
Duh! As soon as that bromance started, I was asking why Musk would cozy up to an openly, proudly, EV-hostile regime. My suspicion was that he figured to pocket massive government contracts that would enrich him so much that what he lost on Tesla would be trivial.
As for incentives for oil and gas production and consumption, anyone who heard the speeches at the convention, particularly the one by the now Sec Energy, would not be surprised.
Elon doesn’t understand how government works. Each category of government spending exists because there is a constituency that wants it to exist. If you want to cut that category of spending you need to find a stronger constituency that wants to end it.
The constituency who currently runs our government has zero interest in reducing the deficit or debt and they never have. It is like asking a leopard to change his spots. Yet Elon is surprised they did what they have always done.
You should realize those figures are not real. You take it from DOGE? Nobody else who has looked closely at the figures comes anywhere close to that amount. AND the wreckage of the IRS is going to cost a LOT.
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has claimed to have saved $170 billion in federal spending, but this number is disputed and lacks sufficient detail. Some estimates, like those by NPR, suggest that the verified savings are closer to $2.3 billion. DOGE’s claims include contract cancellations, terminations of grants and leases, and a reduction in the government workforce. However, some of DOGE’s claims have been inaccurate or overstated, with some savings being double or triple-counted, or claiming credit for actions taken by previous administrations. For example, the BBC has found that only $61.5 billion of the claimed $175 billion savings had been itemized and that only $32.5 billion had evidence of how the savings were achieved.
The shrinkage of the IRS, particularly through staff cuts proposed by DOGE, could significantly impact the government’s revenue. Estimates suggest that a 18% cut in IRS staff could result in a loss of approximately $1.6 trillion over the next decade. More drastic cuts, like a 50% reduction in staff, could lead to a loss of nearly $2.4 trillion in revenue, according to The Budget Lab at Yale (The Revenue and Distributional Effects of IRS Funding). This loss in revenue is attributed to reduced collection capacity and increased non-compliance
Did you see that staffers for Nancy Mace are going public with her orders to make burner ( anonymous ) accounts, and defend her from negative comments, and spread her propaganda ?
I think there is probably a DOGE staffer posting on this board.
