OT: FedEx service, or lack thereof

I’ve been waiting for a package to arrive via FedEx for most of the day. I’m not waiting because I desperately need the item right now, but rather because it is very rainy outside and I don’t want the package to sit at my doorstep in the rain for too long. FedEx has sent me emails every day until yesterday telling me that it will arrive today. And then the last email said it will arrive between 11am and 3pm today. Well, it’s now after 5pm and still no package has arrived. Not only that, but their vaunted tracking site is essentially useless as the last status update in the list is - “Departed FedEx location TRACY, CA 6/28/25 10:53 AM”. That doesn’t help me one bit, they used to have much more information and even a way to click on the last status and it would show where the FedEx truck is located right now. None of that anymore. Seriously, how is it possible that their system won’t, at a minimum, show me the time it was loaded onto the truck at the local FedEx distribution center earlier today?

This is NOT an Amazon delivery, they have MUCH better tracking most of the time. In fact, I can kind of see why Amazon rarely uses FedEx anymore. They have their own delivery service that is far better, and they use UPS or USPS when optimal. In fact, I can’t recall the last time I received an Amazon order via FedEx.

My VR Headset strap is supposed to arrive today from TEMU. When I looked at the status list, I noticed that the package went from Los Angeles to Seattle, then Boise ID and back to Portland. Seems like a lot of extra shipping.

It’s now 7pm and the package has still not arrived. At least the rain has stopped so when it does eventually arrive, it won’t get soaked.

FedEx has sent me emails every day until yesterday telling me that it will arrive today. And then the last email said it will arrive between 11am and 3pm today. Well, it’s now after 5pm and still no package has arrived.

Look on the bright side Mark. You could be stuck with DHL. Every time Express Scripts decides to use DHL the meds get lost or delayed.

It is a glitch in the system. I ship things to Hawaii occasionally. I’ll see things like LA-Honolulu-LA-Honolulu-LA-Honolulu. There is no way that’s actually happening.

I just received an email from FedEx! They now say -

“Wed 7/02/2025 Estimated between 10:50am and 2:50pm”

Hopefully there will be no rain at that time.

But the tracking still says nothing about where the package is actually located at the current time. Last update is still when it departed CA on Saturday.

TEMU package arrived on my front deck at 2:05 AM in the dead of night. The only reason I saw it, was the dog needed to go outside.

I didn’t realize these guys work 24 hours a day. No wonder the US is falling behind China.

I sent a package to a friend in California via USPS. Tracking tells me it arrived in Aurora, Colorado yesterday at 11:26 pm and left Aurora at 11:08 pm. That’s pretty slick…

FedEx finally updated the status! And it only arrived at the local FedEx facility early this morning. I don’t know why they told me it would be delivered yesterday. Now they say - “Today Estimated between 11:10 AM - 1:10 PM”, at least it’s a shorter window this time around.

Doesn’t FedEx have the option to drill down for more detail? I seem to recall that being useful on occasion … particularly for removing the impression the package is just sitting on a shelf somewhere.

Yes, they do. And until this morning, the last update was that it arrived to a FedEx center in CA on Saturday. And at the top the expected delivery date and time was yesterday between 11 and 3pm.

Anyway, it arrived at 12:35pm today.
