OT: Free exercise links

This isn’t Macroeconomic so it’s OT. I did claim that exercise was free. Anyone with shoes can walk and anyone with a 6’ X 8’ space can do body weight exercises such as yoga (flow yoga is a strenuous strength exercise). But for those who enjoy guided exercise here are some links to free exercise classes online.

A huge variety of exercises

Flow yoga

Abdominal workout

Good workout music with exercise video

Short Zumba class

Zumba toning with the beautiful Diana. Start with the last video clip (on the far right) which is the warm-up. Then the rest of the workout will play automatically. This uses weights. If you don’t have weights you can use bottled water or cans of food. I use 3 pound hand weights. Don’t overdo the weights until you are familiar with the routines because you can injure your tendons.

These are all free.

There are literally millions of “free exercise videos” on youtube. It’s one of their most popular genres.

I particularly like these old Indian guys promoting something called “Chair Yoga”.

Who knew that you could get as ripped as an NFL defensive end without leaving the chair? {{ LOL }}

One of my siblings has been doing Yoga online (youtube videos) since the start of Covid. She likes it and hasn’t gone back to a gym since. She also walks a few miles a day. Sometimes I walk with her, last night we did 3.1 miles.

I did plenty of chair yoga and chair Zumba when I tore the tendons in my ankles and could barely walk, let alone work out. But it’s important not to atrophy.

I injured my ankle over the Summer and was unable to walk my usual 6-8 miles per day for about 6 weeks. I happened to do my 3-month labs in the middle of that, and my fasting glucose was up by 10 points. Now that I’ve returned to my usual routine, the fasting glucose is back in the 80’s.

I’ve started doing push-ups, sit-ups and pull-ups in the event I get another leg injury that prevents me from walking.

Tore my meniscus doing quad stretches. Go figure. Meeting with surgeon next month probably for laser trim.
Still can do my favorite HIIT on the StairMaster at the gym.
200 steps as fast as I can and then rest until heart goes back down . . times 4.

You should have started these resistance exercises anyway already as a complement to the cardio exercise of walking. Resistance exercise is very important to keep the bones strong and to retain muscle mass.
