When I was growing up Los Angeles was possibly the nastiest secretively racist metropolis in the world, not by law but by a myriad of ugly secret agreements of home loan authorities, school boundary drawers, and etc.. I was part of the popular and political forces that utterly transformed Los Angeles into arguably the most vibrant, diverse, prosperous metropolis in the world.

No mistake, Gavin is running for Prez, and besides being a “California is united against POTUS fascism” rally, it was Southern California (once again) giving way to and supporting a Northern California politician.
In decades past people referred to Nancy Pelosi (then never even elected as dogcatcher, but nevertheless an almost omnipotent Chair of the California Democratic Party) as “the Good Witch of the North, and my own Mother, (President of the Los Angeles City Council and a bunch of other power tokens) as “the Good Witch of the South”. I made at least 3 trips north and back to “in person looking eye to eye” seal deals between the two of them regarding pages of issues from their very different domains. Northern and Southern California are very different worlds, but their concord since Trump became Prez is quite significantly solid.
Typically for a Los Angeleño, I do not have warm feelings for Gavin, but boy do I back him. That is why I thought that press event was significant.
