Recently, there has been an obvious concentration on providing diverse and racially ambiguous actors on TV advertising. Generally, I’m guessing this is to appeal to the group who feels the actors represent them.
Over the past few days, I’ve seen this ad a number of times:

This shows a mother giving her daughter “The Talk”. It turns out that it is the “savings talk”. The choice of actors, both presumed to be Chinese-American is fascinating because (I feel) it is not only directed towards Asians, but also towards watchers of other races who, subconsciously, attribute intelligence, wisdom and attention to “raising children right” to Chinese mothers.
It is, either by purpose or by accident, a masterful piece and deserves to be in the advertising Hall of Fame (if one exists).
