Israeli officials obtained Hamas’s battle plan for the Oct. 7 terrorist attack more than a year before it happened, documents, emails and interviews show. But Israeli military and intelligence officials dismissed the plan as aspirational, considering it too difficult for Hamas to carry out.
The approximately 40-page document, which the Israeli authorities code-named “Jericho Wall,” outlined, point by point, exactly the kind of devastating invasion that led to the deaths of about 1,200 people.
Hamas followed the blueprint with shocking precision.
The plan also included details about the location and size of Israeli military forces, communication hubs and other sensitive information, raising questions about how Hamas gathered its intelligence and whether there were leaks inside the Israeli security establishment.
It is unclear whether Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or other top political leaders saw the document, as well.
I doubt such information was withheld from Netanyahu.
Apparently Israeli security sucks.
And Israel underestimated the competency of Hamas.
Don’t tell the Hezbollah guys who had pagers or those responsible for Iranian air defense or Ismail Haniyeh (assassinated along with his personal bodyguard in Tehran).
Agreed. By the way, this story came out a year ago.
It can. Saw it first hand in 1974–and told them what was coming (could not say when because that was not knowable in advance). I told them how, where (the target), what the attackers would do AND why (not philosophically but how the attack would happen).
Then it happened–twice. People died. After the second attack, the military acted to massively enforce security in the area. Nothing more since then.
Attorney General Ashcroft stopped flying commercial airlines, and switched to private government aircraft, in the summer of 2001, due to a “threat assessment” by the FBI. That same summer, an FBI field office reported to DC there were some very sketchy characters taking flight lessons, and urgently recommended DC have all the other field offices check the flight schools in their areas for students with similar interests. Then, on 9/11, the POTUS sat and read “My Pet Goat”, as the attack played out.
