OT: Record number of anti-Semitic incidents in UK

A report from the Community Security Trust (CST), published in February, revealed that there were over 4,100 anti-Semitic incidents in the UK in 2023. This is the highest number the CST has ever recorded in a single calendar year in its three-decades-long history. British Jews have been physically and verbally harassed on the streets. Kosher restaurants have been attacked. At points, Jewish schools have been forced to close their doors because their pupils have been at risk…

The echoes of the 1930s and the rise of Oswald Mosley’s fascist movement are difficult to ignore. Then as now, Britain’s Jews were being menaced on the streets by a growing mass movement charged with anti-Semitic sentiment. And then as now, Britain’s Jews had to start fighting back.

It’s worth looking at one key moment in this conflict between Mosley’s fascists and Britain’s Jews. Not the well-known Battle of Cable Street in October 1936, when locals stopped a British Union of Fascists march through Stepney, east London. But another battle, this time in the Jewish quarter of Manchester. For this provides a remarkable story of resistance and bravery in the face anti-Semitism…

How many anti-Muslim incidents occurred in the UK in 2023. I would guess that more than 5,000 such incidents occurred.

About half of that. The UK was averaging 150 such incidents monthly. That increased to 500 after October 7th.

(150 x 9) + (500 x 3) = approx. 2850

Because guesses are better than actual data? Some people may want there to be more of one thing than another, but that desire does not always equate to reality.

Anyway, you cut it human beings suck.

There is a major problem throughout the Muslim world. The governance needs open free elections and legal rights for the individual similar to the Bill of Rights. Until that happens there will be violence throughout the Muslim world that spills over. The focus is on Israel right now but currently in Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, and Syria worse is happening. Most of the violence is Muslim against Muslims.

Muslims in the West need to stop the double standard and call for governance to change in the Muslim countries.

Western lives are lost in Muslim countries because of the violence.

Freedom of religion matters.

Jaak, your guess is not unwarranted. The problem is even you totally ignore the Muslim against Muslim violence. The focus only happens when it is not Muslims being killed by Muslims.

The US has fought three wars in the ME and Afghanistan. The Afgan War, the Iraqi War, and then Operations against ISIS. No one really cared. Not even the Muslims in the UK or US protested much. Yes, people second-guessed Iraq. That was about it. In comparison, a similar objection to Israel was nowhere in sight.

Incidents per capita:

                              Per Thousand
Jews 4.1K/278K = 0.015 14.7
Muslims 2.8K/3868K = 0.0007 0.7

What you want and what is allowed are mutually exclusive. Islam is designed to be a religion that DENIES CHOICE. That is how dictatorships operate. The available options to the public are those selected by the religion, not by the people. The public is only allowed to choose from approved to run for any office. Sound familiar?

  • The religion question is voluntary; 94.0% (56.0 million) of usual residents answered the question in 2021, an increase from 92.9% (52.1 million) in 2011.
  • For the first time in a census of England and Wales, less than half of the population (46.2%, 27.5 million people) described themselves as “Christian”, a 13.1 percentage point decrease from 59.3% (33.3 million) in 2011; despite this decrease, “Christian” remained the most common response to the religion question.
  • “No religion” was the second most common response, increasing by 12.0 percentage points to 37.2% (22.2 million) from 25.2% (14.1 million) in 2011.
  • There were increases in the number of people who described themselves as “Muslim” (3.9 million, 6.5% in 2021, up from 2.7 million, 4.9% in 2011) and “Hindu” (1.0 million, 1.7% in 2021, up from 818,000, 1.5% in 2011).

I freely admit I am no expert of Islam, but they did have an Islamic Golden Age for several centuries where they made huge advances in mathematics, technology, education, astronomy, and much more.

I am of the belief that it’s not the religion, but rather who controls the religion. And this appears to be the case when it comes to all religions.

Catholic Church recognizes marriages between a Catholic and a non-Catholic. However, a Catholic must receive permission from a competent authority, usually the local ordinary, to marry a non-Catholic. The Catholic must also agree to continue practicing their faith and raise their children as Catholics. The non-Catholic partner must also be aware that their children will be raised as Catholics.

The Talmud and later classical sources of Jewish law are clear that the institution of Jewish marriage, kiddushin , can only be effected between Jews. All branches of Orthodox Judaism follow the historic Jewish attitudes to intermarriage, and therefore refuse to accept that intermarriages would have any validity or legitimacy, and strictly forbid sex with a member of a different faith. Orthodox rabbis refuse to officiate at interfaith weddings, and also try to avoid assisting them in other ways. Secular intermarriage is seen as a deliberate rejection of Judaism, and an intermarried person is effectively cut off from most of the Orthodox community. especially Jewish women (because Orthodox Jewish law considers the children of Jewish women to be Jews regardless of the father’s status). Most Israeli Jews oppose mixed relationships, particularly those between Jewish women and Muslim men. A 2007 opinion survey found that over half of Israeli Jews believed intermarriage is equivalent to “national treason”.

Both Hindus and Muslims reject the idea of inter-marriage on grounds, which are religious as well as social psychological or cultural. The Islamic canon law (shariah) prohibits inter-religious marriage but allows a Muslim male to marry a Jewish or Christian woman.

Agreed and the violence particularly Muslim against Muslims will not end at all.

The reason no power will be shared.

Focusing on Israel is the least of it. Israel is not to blame. Hamas as Israel has long said is not a partner in peace. Hamas is not a partner for the average Gazan either. Just sheer garbage.

BTW @jerryab2 without powersharing no human being is any better.

One thing, I do not blame it on the religion. I blame the little men who grab power.

Totally agree with this.

Remember @jerryab2 Jews wrote the Quoran. There were only a couple of illiterates that were Muslim at first.
