OT: Some first glimpses at Notre Dame

The bulk of the restoration of Notre Dame is complete, and French President Macron held an informal ceremony for those who worked on the restoration, thanking them for their work.

The news piece below also mentions that the restoration was paid for from private funds (with the exception of some road and city infrastructure work just outside the Cathedral).

These are the first views I’ve seen of the interior and it looks quite impressive. Centuries of dirt and grime (to say nothing of the smoke damage) are gone, leaving the white marble interior looking bright.

For completeness, and to cover some things missed in the above piece, while the interior is substantially complete, work is still continuing on the exterior - parts of which are still covered in scaffolding. And not everyone is thrilled with the interior restoration.

PS - I may not be correct about the interior being marble. Looked like it at first glance, but I’m not as sure after watching some other coverage.

The Danish Modern furniture and baptismal font is interesting, though…

Hats off for a French national treasure carefully restored. May well have been in need of restoration for decades if not centuries. The fire made needed resources available.
