Portfolio123 - what's working lately

Many of you know about Portfolio123 (https://www.portfolio123.com/) . It’s been around since 2004, has excellent tools for back testing and screening, 10 model screens, a stock database with no survivorship bias, and dozens of screens by members.

I’ve been a subscriber for 3 years now. A basic retail subscription starts at $25/month. Well worth it if you’re serious about accurate back tests and screen picks.

The following two P123 screens are examples of what’s working lately. You can access them at no additional charge once you’ve signed up for a basic subscription.

Hi Ron, could you post the p123 rules for these 2 screens - I searched for screen under rdutt and nothing came back - the links in your post also do not work for me - Thanks

You have to be a P123 subscriber for the links to work.

If you’re already a P123 member and are having trouble accessing the 2 links above, try going to

https://www.portfolio123.com/app/group/317/

and click on Live Strategies on the left. You can then subscribe for free to the 2 screens I mentioned.

Got it - subscribed to it ok

Is it a contract violation to set forth criteria? I doubt it; you aren’t using the site to state the stock selection. Please set forth criteria.

Yes, screening criteria can be considered to be the intellectual property of Portfolio123. Members sometimes subscribe to screens designed by other members, and pay an additional fee for the subscription. I’m happy to be a paying subscriber to P123 because I’m a serious investor and need a reputable company to support my screening, back testing and stock database. I have no other affiliation with them.

Ron

Thank you for the examples. I am a P123 subscriber. The second screen will launch but the first does not. Is it a paid screen perhaps?

Vol

Hi Vol, welcome back to the board. The first screen is not a paid screen, and you can access it for free if you are a P123 member. Can you try the following:

  1. Go to https://www.portfolio123.com/app/group/317
  2. Click on Live Strategies on the left
  3. Click on Mid and Big Cap Higher Beta DEPOT 3 (it’s the 5th screen from the top)

BTW, here are year-by-year results for the screen:

I first subscribed to Portfolio123 back in 2005. For the first 10 years the vast majority of users who built what they call designer models which other members can use for a fee or some just free had a very bad record of post discovery success over any significant period of time. But gradually over time the ranking systems, and other tools have been significantly improved. A significant number of more professional finance, statisticians and AI fluent individual have subscribed. A significant percentage are reporting consistent outperformance. As an Ultimate member you have the capability of downloading data and using your own system for the truly capable.

  1. Screener $25/mo, with Predefied Ranking Systems and backtests of 5 Yrs,
  2. Backtest $84/mo, allows custom ranking systems, 10Y preceding membership backtests
  3. Portfolio $125/mo 15yr backtests, simulated strategies with more complex buy and sell criteria both long and short.
  4. Ultimate $200/mo, Not for the beginner but adds a significant number of features like regression functions,
an optimizer, rolling tests and AI (Artificial Intelligence). Enabling the selection of features up to several hundred, use typical AI models like Random Forest, Extra Trees, lightgbm, svm, xgb, linear, linear ridge and more.

For the majority of individuals robbie’s free GTR1 with it’s robust equation capability and daily start backtests is in almost every way at least equal if not superior to the first two options above. However the Portfolio and above have significant advantages when building and running an actual trading strategies.

However for those retirees who have built up a million or more the Portfolio cost of 0.15% a year could be worthwhile.

The Ultimate membership’s AI system has a steep learning curve requiring a very strong commitment.
But that’s were I have been focusing on currently.

P.S. I have no connection to P123 other than a user.
