Potential TTD competition?

As per Dow Jones:

"Amazon. com Inc. has been building a business selling ads on its Fire streaming television platform. Now, it wants to sell some ads for the first time on other streaming TV systems such as Apple TV and Xbox, according to people familiar with the matter.

In a new initiative, Amazon is talking with TV app owners about integrating technology to let it sell some of their ad inventory on other streaming TV systems, which would also include PlayStation and Android TV, according to the people."

With the total addressable market huge and growing, it is not surprising to see additional entrants into the field of ad brokering. Amazon has shown to be a formidable competitor in most markets it has entered. TTD has the advantage of not being a direct competitor to many of the ad buyers. For example, Roku directly competes with Amazon fire, and Google and Amazon compete in web services.

App owners already working with Amazon Publisher Services include CNN, Discovery and A&E, as well as digital video platforms such as Pluto TV and Tubi TV.

This sounds like a sale side platform. Buy side like TTD represent ad agency or brand like P&G. If Amazon Publisher Services represent both buyer (advertiser) and seller (media), it basically act as a dual agent. Advertiser will definitely prefer to use TTD since it’s buy side only.

So I think this will mostly impact Telaria. Probably it’s the motivation for its recent merger.

Saw this on seekingalpha reader comment about this story.

People are very misinformed. I contacted the company investor relations about this and linked them the Wall Street Journal article and this seeking alpha link.
Here is their reply
"
This is Amazon Publisher Services an SSP trying to secure more inventory. It is not competitive. We are not an ad selling platform. We are an ad buying platform that is integrated with Amazon Publishers services to bid on inventory they would have available.

Hope that helps.

Additionally they replied
"Amazon is a partner. We are the only outside DSP that is integrated with Amazon Publisher Services. Amazon Publisher services is an SSP (supply side platform)
We currently can buy inventory on all 3rd party apps on Amazon Publisher Services.

Kevin, that was very helpful and cleared up what was going on. Thanks so much for reprinting it for us and posting it.
