Local news at noon was, as usual, screaming about monkeypox.
What they hardly ever mention, because it would fight the hysteria narrative, is it’s very hard to catch, and smallpox vaccines in hand are 85% effective.
SHOCKING!!!ALARMING!!!
CDC officials sound alarm for gay and bisexual men as monkeypox spreads in community
Not to mention that supposedly “everyone” has to worry about it even though it’s mostly a disease of young gay men and a few children. Not very transmissable. Not very deadly.
That is the community within which it is spreading.
Pride festival in Gran Canaria - which was attended by 80,000 people - is linked to Spanish monkeypox outbreak www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10839877/Monkeypox-outbreak…
The Gran Canarian pride festival attended by 80,000 from Britain and across Europe is being investigated after being linked to numerous monkeypox cases in Madrid, Italy and Tenerife. Held between May 5 and May 15, Maspalomas Pride attracts visitors from across the continent.
It was attended by people who have tested positive for the monekypox virus afterwards, with public health services from the Canary Islands now investigating the any links between the cases and the LGBT+ celebrations.
“Among the 30 or so diagnosed in Madrid, there are several who attended the event, although it is not yet possible to know if one of them is patient zero of this outbreak or if they all got infected there,” a health source told El País.
As a gay male with a lot of Public Health knowledge I have no problem saying that at least up into the 90’s gay males in their 20s into early 40s were significantly more promiscuous than any other population but professional sex workers who usually have better protection against disease.
The “news” reported tonight that, out of the Billions of people in the world, 92 have it, yet it’s getting the world-wide plague hysteria.
While we are on the topic, the “news” tonight was screaming “DIESEL FUEL SHORTAGE!!!”. They showed one trucker crying about the $500 tab for the fuel he just put in his tractor. He showed off the locking gas caps he shelled out more money for. Now there is a logic failure, especially in a semi. Any decent fuel thief will not be deterred by locking caps. He’ll simply drill a hole in the tank and drain the fuel out, then the trucker has to pay to repair or replace the tank, and he will still lose the $500 of fuel.

More logic: The locking cap protects against fuel thieves that do not have a drill. And 19 out of 20 fuel thieves don’t have a drill (or are not willing to drill for fuel, they just step one semi over and get their fuel instead).

A cordless drill is as close as the nearest WalMart.
Thieves are draining gas tanks, here’s how you can protect yours
AAA reports that thieves have begun drilling directly into fuel tanks to steal gasoline since siphoning gas has become difficult.
“It’s not something quick where you can just jam a hose in and siphon it out like they show in the movies,” said Vince Fiori, owner of Fiori Auto Repairs, in Penn Hills.
Fiori said there are safety measures in most newer vehicles that prevent a hose from getting into the gas tank.
Determined thieves, according to AAA, are now drilling the gas tank underneath.
Diesel is worth more than gas, a diesel tank is safer to drill into as it’s less likely to ignite explosively from a spark, semi tanks are bigger, semi tanks are easier to get at. A drill is well worth the investment, assuming the thieves don’t steal the drill as well.
Maybe for monkeypox as a disease but it suggests that, within the population that appears to be most vulnerable …and was most vulnerable to spread of HIV/AIDS 40 years ago…the behaviour patterns are being repeated. A younger cohort with no historical perspective.
I doubt monkeypox is likely to be the next big epidemic/pandemic…but a canary in the coal mine maybe, as a measure how quickly we forget and just how at the mercy of the microbe we actually are.
I was away for the 14th and with no internet connection so couldn’t do my usual anniversary reminder of Jenner’s first demonstration of vaccination.
I remember that monkeypox was making headlines last year and then faded from the news. Fortunately, it’s NOT an airborne disease. It just seems so ironic to dismiss COVID-19 while getting whipped up in a frenzy over monkeypox.
