Seems like the strategy is not to “cut benefits”, but to bring in a private firm to handle customer service and payments processing.

Imagine if you get a monthly Social Security “gift card” with a 3% processing fee. That would be a nice contract for a favored oligarch.

Nah, they’ll just take a page from the private health insurance companies and find an excuse not to pay 30% of the filings for Social Security.
