Prosecutors Add Terrorism Charge to First Degree Murder Charge

New York state allows first-degree murder charges in only a limited number of situations such as the killing of a police officer. One of these is terrorism, so terrorism was included so that Mangione would be eligible for a life sentence without parole.

Given that there appears to be no direct link between him and the victim or UHC is there a good argument that this wasn’t meant to be terrorism?

Mike

Wouldn’t it be just the opposite? Terror works by targeting random people, sometimes of some affiliation (in this case affiliation with the US healthcare industry), to sow terror and perhaps influence future policy action within that affiliation.

[EDIT: I think I may have misread your post. Sorry!]

Then the C-level executives at ALL health insurance companies are, by your definition, terrorists.

Yeah, and you are also a terrorist because you also refuse to pay for your neighbor’s medical bill.

(The medical insurance contract doesn’t say that they agree to pay anything you want them to pay, it specifies what will be paid and when it’ll be paid and what approvals are necessary before it’ll be paid. The insurance company doesn’t say “no, you may not go get this care”, they just say “we may not pay for it”. And so do you say “I may not pay for it”.)

Premiums will be paid AFTER service is provided. That is a contract they do not want.
