PSA_Teslas Have A Car Wash Mode

First I have heard of this feature.

He explained that owners must select Car Wash Mode from the touchscreen menu to ensure the car’s systems are properly locked, preventing water damage.

Clumsy. All I have to do in my ZDX (likely same in any GM/Ultium vehicle) is push the brake pedal while shifting into neutral. Car wash mode entered. Then shift into drive to disable it.

I’m not sure what is clumsy about it. Something on the screen seems like 100,000% time more obvious than what you describe.

I didn’t say obvious. I said clumsy. Brake/neutral, done. I can do it without even looking at anything. Poke menu poke again new menu poke again. Clumsy.

Nothing wrong with the brake/neutral thing once you know it exists and one has the memory for that sort of thing. Being on the screen will help people to discover it and will be a preferred interface for some.

Easier yet is to simply push the microphone button on the steering wheel and say “enter car wash mode”.

One of the reasons for car wash mode is that you don’t want some automatic actions to happen, such as the wipers coming on when “rain drops” are detected. You also don’t want the charging port door to pop open (you normal push on it and it opens).

Other cars don’t have the feature and have problems…such as when you wash a Prius that has the door handle touch sensor (not a button). Hitting it with a high pressure stream while you have the fob in your pocket locks/unlocks the doors.

You also don’t want someone with a phone app to be able to accidentally operate the windows or pop open the truck or frunk.
