Where did these guys buy these fridges?

Costco? Sams Club? Lowes? Home Depot?

Because all of those clubs screw this up. Yeah, you can save $20 to $50 but you get cheap stuff. The box stores negotiate for crap.

Go to your local appliance folks who do repairs. The store will open up the catalogs and steer you to the model that holds up extremely well.

Blame the box stores. LG was just stupid enough to do business with them. Cheap does not save money.

If you read the story, these were $3,000 refrigerators. Cheap crap dressed up like a luxury good.

I got my current refrigerator 11 years ago at Lowes for $500. Very simple model without an ice maker made by Fridgidare and highly rated by Consumer Reports . No electronic LED lights or ice cubes spitting out of the front door.

I thought it failed over New Year’s, when the lower refrigerator box stopped cooling. But after tearing it apart, I found the evaporator coil at the rear of the freezer box all iced up. Likely caused by having it jam packed with frozen food and restricting the flow of air through the vents and to the lower refrigerator box. Plenty of videos on you tube that will show you how to repair a refrigerator – you don’t need to be an Engineer. It’s just nuts to throw one away when you can often get it working with a $20 part. Even the compressor in the LG/Kenmore story shouldn’t cost more than $200.
