Why not add facial recognition to your sign in page?

As an option? Hopefully because I want nothing to do with it.

I’ve never seen facial recognition implemented for a site accessed using a web browser. For an app running on my phone, sure - bank, broker, medical - but those applications have it built into the application, and the application can use the security tools (fingerprints reader, camera) built in my the phone manufacturer. The Motley Fool is a web site, and is accessed by whatever web browsers the person happens to be using. HTML isn’t currently capable of facial recognition or such.

And not all systems we use have cameras…

And after posting this, it’s not just the camera that does facial recognition, at least on the iPhone, it’s complies servers of maybe hundreds of light rays, out of our visual range that make up a template of our face, that has to be matched up… Way more complex than a simple ‘flat’ digital image…

Yes, the iPhone’s face recognition is not just a camera. Not even close.

Apple’s TrueDepth camera system replaces the front facing camera on the iPhone X and later. … A dot projector throws over 30,000 dots onto the user’s face, which are then captured by an infrared camera. To ensure the system operates properly in the dark, a flood illuminator adds more infrared light when needed.

There was, maybe continuing, a project by a 3rd party to use the infrared facial recognition system to do a clever trick and create 3D images with it… Been a while, no updates I’ve seen, so far…

Here’s an earlier video, showing a bit more of what’s going on in a lot more detail…
