Smith & Weston Mexican Gun case to Supreme Court

https://www.reuters.com/legal/us-supreme-court-hear-challenge-mexicos-suit-against-american-gun-companies-2024-10-04/

" The lawsuit accused the gun companies of unlawfully designing and marketing their products with the aim of driving up demand among the cartels, including by associating their “civilian” products with the U.S. military and law enforcement.

It also accused the companies of knowingly maintaining a distribution system that included firearms dealers who conspire with third-party, or “straw,” purchasers who traffic guns to cartels in Mexico.

“Defendants use this head-in-the-sand approach to deny responsibility while knowingly profiting from the criminal trade,” Mexico’s suit stated.

The estimated value of all guns trafficked from the United States into Mexico - counting those made by the defendants and other manufacturers - totaled more than $250 million annually, according to the lawsuit."

Lets put that in context.

Gun stores had revenue of about $11 billion, IBIS World said in its 2018 report.

Meanwhile, a few weeks ago, in a “family” tailgating event prior to a Detroit Lions game, an argument started between two men. One pulled out his gun. The other man pulled out his gun, and fired. The bullet went through the first man, and into an innocent bystander. Both men died.

Were the men the typical inner city thug types? Nope. Were they the sort of “illegals” that are currently flooding adverts in the media? Nope. In fact, they were both CPL holders, that felt the need to carry a gun in a daytime, family, event, and use it to settle an argument. And two men died.

A couple weeks later, management of the venue that was having the tailgating even announced that guns would be banned from all future tailgating events. I grumbled “you’re going to tell a bunch of liquored up football fans, that they can’t carry guns in a family event? good luck with that”.

The venue management must have received blistering pushback from gun crazies about the ban, because, a couple weeks later, they announced tailgating was cancelled.

Welcome to Shiny-land, were you can be shot dead, at any moment, as you go about your business.

Do you imply you think Second Amendment should allow sale of guns to criminals in a foreign country? They knew their products were being used for illegal purposes and made no effort to stop those sales. They are liable and should not be protected from law suits of that type.

Sales to gun stores that sell lots of guns that end up in the hands of criminals should also be prosecuted. That is not the purpose of the Second Amendment.

Second Amendment allows people to keep and bear arms. It says nothing about allowing criminals to own them or sales to criminals.
