Social Security Fairness Act

Well it looks like it will have a vote in the Senate then off to the White House.

“My Social Security is reduced due to my pension,” Hoover, told fellow first responders at a rally earlier in the week, as by a local CBS affiliate. “And then my wife, she was a nurse for 41 years and paid into the Social Security system, you know, and I cannot draw one penny off of her because of my pension.”

Well at least it’s coming up for a vote.

Passed the Senate and on to Joe. This is how you get things done when you know how to govern. Another notch in Joe Bidens belt. Do not expect things like this to happen in the next 4 years.

Why did they wait until the last month and why did they wait until after the election? If it’s “getting things done” and a “notch in his belt”, why not do it before the election so people can use the achievement as a reason to vote him (them) in again?

You sound like my wife Mark. I really don’t care when it gets done, but it was done. But I am happy that Joe is still getting things done. Some people would just quit working or worse, work to create problems for the next guy.

What was it that he did? I read half a dozen articles about the CR, and Mr. B was only mentioned in his signing capacity.

Ahhh so you don’t believe a President should get credit nor blame for anything that happens in his term. I am glad to hear that.

So tell me, what exactly do you give Biden credit for?

For me the answer would be “stepping aside”
[Edit: even that was a bit too late]

Mike

True Mike, that was a very selfless act that not many people would have done. That act alone proves what a great leader he is.

It was much too late. According to a NYT piece yesterday, his staff began arranging things in the second year of his term. Given my own experience with a failing leader, I’m sure it was innocent enough at first, just excusing a few meetings, or rescheduling some things, cutting down on travel, etc.

But by the 4th year there should have been a clear internal revolt at the thought of him running for re-election, especially if the performance at the debate was anything like what they were seeing up close and personal. At that point it would have thrown the primaries open and a different challenger could have emerged.

The outcome might have been the same, as the electorate here and elsewhere seemed determined to throw out the incumbents (and incumbent parties), but at least Democrats would have had a choice of candidate and avoided the messy “transition of power” that ensured when he did belatedly step down.

I suspect that we in the general public have little idea really about what kind of shape he was and is in. Lots of rumors; lots of overinterpretation; HUGE reliance on the debate. I have read that if one listens to or reads the debate with no video, the impression is quite different. I do know that I saw video of him with a crowd later that same night where he was sharp and alert and full of energy. I think that there has been so much anti-Biden stuff said that it has even contaminated the view of those who would otherwise be pro-Biden.

I think it also is important to ask people what they thought any President did that was good for the country. If they can’t name one thing, well than, they are to dogmatic. Not people you really want to listen to. Those are the type of people that only wish the country to do good when their “Team” is in power.

It is amazing when you ask that question how many people will not answer it. Instead they go directly to the faults.

I don’t know what he did, or if he was involved in the negotiations. That said, sometimes it’s not about what you do, but what you don’t do. He didn’t step in, blowing things up with ridiculous self-serving demands.

I suppose I’ll be accused of whataboutism for expressing the following…whatever.

Biden is in no way perfect. He’s old, slow, and bungles his words. I don’t agree with everything he does, but it’s not like he’s holed up in a senior living center somewhere in TX. He is still doing stuff. You may not like what he does, but you shouldn’t buy into the anti-B hype.

We have a president-elect who has publicly referred to our biggest ally as a state, threatened to take back the Panama Canal, threatened to arrest his political opponents, and on, and on, and on. His words and actions are damaging our reputation and economy. Are you concerned about any of this, or is Biden our only problem?
