It wasn’t short, but I definitely remember Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong.

Me too!!! I flew in and out of there 12 times in March/April of 1998, a few months before it closed. It was freaky taking a sharp turn and then seeing high rises NEXT TO YOU as you approached the runway. The only thing that comes close to that today at a major airport is DCA.
And you were probably doing that tight maneuvering in a 747, not some little plane like a regional jet.
