$2,000 on a $40,000 car is like 5%. I thought the tariffs were 30%?

iirc, cars and car parts are generally 25%. Most Subes for US sale are built in Indiana, but the engines and transmissions are imported from Japan. Probably some other tidbits too. Those parts are tariffed. And then, there are “market conditions”, meaning “people want new cars, so we can take more money off them”. The Ford CEO said about the same thing, words to the effect “we can jack our prices up, and people will finance for a longer period, or cut other spending, so they can make their payments at the higher price points”.

Subaru does a lot of assembly in the US. The Tariffs apply only to the parts which are imported.
