I put a deposit on a 2020 Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD with Performance Boost ($25,000 sales price) that qualifies for the $4,000 tax credit. It’s currently sitting at the Tesla facility in Renton WA.
All things come to those who wait.

I hope your insurance covers spray-painted graffiti, fire damage from Molotov cocktails, key scrapes, etc.
Just hope you don’t need any spare parts while you own it.

just curious, it’s a 2020, but it is still at a Tesla facility, do you mean a dealership ? I’m not familiar with the Tesla sales infrastructure at all. Was it a traded in vehicle ? How many miles on the car ?
That is a really nice price congratulation Intercst
Tesla has about 80 used car facilities around the country to process trade-ins and vehicles coming off leases. The vehicle I ordered has 71,000 miles and comes with a 1-year warranty. Battery and drive train warranty is good until June 2028 or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first.
I see I just got a text saying it’s ready for delivery. I’ll probably take Amtrak to Tukwilla (about 10 miles South of Seattle) and pick it up the middle of next week.

I’m self-insured for collision & comprehensive. And the vehicle will be garaged.

Just teasing you, bro. Hope it meets your expectations.
Even when you’re at the mall?
If I had saved that much on the purchase price, I’d spring for another $50 for a different badge.
i haven’t been to a shopping mall in years,

I think it worth noting that there are something like a million and a half Teslas in the US. The vandalism is bad, but lets try to keep things in proportion.
Congratulations to intercst. I’m totally happy with my Y, bought new in December 2021.
“The mall” was a metaphor. Could be outside Waffle House, WalMart, a concert, a game, or anywhere else.
Yes, odds are low, but they’re a lot higher than any other brand, I’d guess.
Don’t forget that Teslas have Sentry Mode that collects video from around the vehicle. I bet Elon is using this to hunt down the vandals and arsonists to “protect the brand”.
Sentry Mode is also the reason that Teslas have a much lower than average rate of car theft.

I’ve seen photos of Tesla vehicles with the badges removed. I have to say, they look a little nicer without any badges!
(I’ve also seen a photo of one with the Audi badge … LOL)
It’s not JUST sentry mode. The main reason it’s VERY hard to steal a Tesla is because it won’t go. It’s not like a regular car where you can disable the immobilizer (the chip that tells it a proper key is present) and then “hot wire” it by connecting power to the ignition to start it. There is no ignition. And turning it “ON” is something buried deep in the processor’s software. Furthermore, the car is always connected wirelessly, so both the owner and Tesla can see where it is if necessary. So what good is stealing a car that can’t be used? About the only good would be to pull it onto a flatbed and then take is apart and sell the parts. And even so, the expensive parts are also connected to the car via software, and a special tool called “Toolbox” is required to mate many parts to a car when they are replaced.
