Yes as to Trump and family and friends. But I am far more concerned about Thiel, Musk, and the other tech whizzes with advanced no use for “democracy” except as a ploy, who seem to be (mostly) quietly advancing a very different agenda.
The choice is not either/or. I believe in capitalism but have no problems with regulations on the quality of the goods being sold. I firmly support free speech, but recognize the need for safeguards that ensure that speech is not deceptive or slanderous.
We live in an era where bots can manipulate perceptions of popularity, AI can mimic humans, and photographs can modified to alter reality. Reputations can be destroyed instantaneously without proof, people can be bullied by the anonymous, and entities both foreign and domestic can alter elections. We have millions if not billions being lost on online scams, online blackmail, online intimidation.
We had free speech before social media. Social media is not necessary for free speech. Social media needs to be regulated.
