He has “cause” because of what he sees as questionable mortgage application. Says the convicted felon. How much do you want to bet this is just bullying for a rate cut? And then she’ll be a great Fed member, best ever.
Apparently, the presumption of innocence until proven guilty is no longer a fundamental governing principle in America.
Especially not for someone already proven guilty.
Wake up… Trump is not interested in another rate cut. He is interested in complete takeover of Fed.
He is checking and preparing the market for eventual firing of Jay Powell. He is going to takeover Fed. He has been arguing he knows more about interest rate and Fed governor should consult him on rate cuts…
Since Jay Powell didn’t do that, he wanted to have his own Fed. For anyone arguing whoever he appoints will be qualified people… Just look at SCOTUS.
One by One every institution is brought under his control…
Where are the folks who admonished me for failing the 5th grade civic class… ???
Almost. For “Fed” substitute “every form of power”.
The midterms are going to be interesting
More than that, of course. We’re an authoritative regime now.
Jim Bianco… details some details about how the governor’s appointed, and how firing Lisa Cook will eventually allow Trump to take over the entire board. For those who don’t want to read.. ![]()
- The regional presidents, who serve as Fed governors, server 5 year terms, but have to be re-appointed every year in Feb
- Other Fed governors can veto the person appointed by the district
- Once Trump gets 4-3 majority, he will force those in his camp to veto any incoming or other members who are getting reappointed.
A important point is, clearly Trump is not someone who has expertise in these laws and rules. So, there are people with much deeper agenda are advising the president on extraordinary powers Trump invokes. There is an agenda that is systematically taking over Washington and its institutions.
Exactly. Trump is not the guy in charge here. He just had the cult that allowed him to get elected. This is why Trump ALWAYS has someone else read what an EO is about - he doesn’t know.
We’re being run by a tyranny, and all the 2A crowd is silent about it.
Agree about the tyranny. But I don’t want to run afoul of political talk on this forum. So I’ll just ask…
Does a POTUS (any POTUS) have that authority? I thought he couldn’t fire anyone on the Fed. It’s independent and non-partisan. If so, the person can safely ignore him.
A president can fire a Fed Governor for cause. Malfeasance or neglect of duty would justify a for cause removal. In normal times, this would require some sort of investigation and judicial review. We are clearly not living in normal times.
Sounds like Cook has sued to keep her position. This will most certainly go to the SCOTUS. Let’s not hold our breath for a reasonable outcome.
Yes, I read she has no plans to resign. I’m not sure it would go to SCOTUS. If there is no evidence of malfeasance (in this case, mortgage fraud of which she is accused), then it should get thrown out at the first hearing. Nothing for SCOTUS to review, it seems to me.
Have you not heard JD tell judges to be very careful about going against the wishes of Trump???
That “if” is the question. I assume the government has copies of the mortgage paperwork where she made the declarations. I suppose she can claim she didn’t know what she was doing, but I’m not sure that is a good legal defense. (“Officer, I didn’t know what the speed limit was.”)

It is about time the congress takes back some of the powers they have delegated to the President, starting with Tariff. Also, Congress should take a deep look at the EO by President.
It will be tempting for the next Democratic President to use EO, and the democratic lawmakers may not want to give that up… but that’s the only way to make sure these kind of abuses are restricted.
What are supposed to be “emergency” power/ measures are used without discretion. That means, the future POTUS has to live without those “emergency” powers.
You’re implying the charges are true. If they are, then it’s a different matter. Or at least, more complicated (statute of limitations, claims made, possible perjury, etc). If there’s no evidence, it should be really simple.
True enough. However, I think there is evidence. Somebody in the administration had the idea of checking records and found Adam Schiff and Letitia James with multiple “primary residences”. Then somebody had the idea to check the Fed governors. One study found a 2-3% mortgage fraud incidence. That makes it a natural to check out politicos on the other side of the aisle. Political? Sure, and I suspect Dem operatives are going through other public records as we speak/write.
DB2
Assume they do, the question is why they have not filed any charges?
Yeah, mortgage industry has this stupid rule where you get charged more for investment property vs primary residence and you can have only one primary residence. I know many folks who have 2 primary residence due to their work.
The guy who inflated the value of assets argued, I have paid all the loans back, it is not a mortgage fraud… is…
I’m not an operative, but here’s something -
Bondi is a serious dirtbag. Who would’ve thunk it? Me, and anybody with a brain.
Let’s assume everyone is guilty, after all…that seems to be the norm nowadays. I’m cool with prosecuting all the wrong doers. I’m not cool with serious dirtbags prosecuting low level dirtbags.
What say you Bob?
Let’s just burn to the ground all trust, goodwill and decency with each other that we need to cooperate to make a democracy work.
Great idea.
