Trump vs. Powell --> market turmoil

Hi @gcr2016

Just as a statement of pure fact, the first post in the ultracrepidarian thread had 0 political content.

The intent really was vocabulary, and interestingly, after i started that thread, I saw that someone made the exact same vocab post 2 years ago.

I wasn’t expecting a chain of limericks to follow, but i should have known, because I used that word. A few posts were explicitly political, but most not unless one makes some assumptions.

How to deal with unwanted posts?

Probably free market approach is what most people do: ignore them.

That’s what I do.

Or you can take the regulatory approach and flag them. I would only flag a post if someone outright insults another poster, even then very rarely.

I’m more likely to reply and ask for civilty.

And to be honest, because I am not perfect, I would appreciate the same correction sent my way.

As far as poliitics, we have to find a way to at least listen to and acknowledge other points of view. Admittedly this first step can be difficult. Then it’d be great if we can find any common ground (probably even more difficult).

For example, I think you and I achieved that in a discussion on measles.

As many have said before, it’s easy to draw the connection between public policy and investing. For example, current executive policy on science and vaccines is likely to have a negative impact on Moderna (MRNA).

Please do so. As you know, the problem with politics is that it gets personal. We now have posts calling people morons and bringing up their families.

I don’t read every post but if I see one of those I will flag it.

Thank you. People get carried away when it comes to politics.

That is precisely why politics is banned on METAR. Emotion is poisonous to rational thinking. Rational thinking is essential to investing.
