Vlad is firing generals and ranting about Russians living in foreign countries being disloyal.
Saw a clip last night that they are running out of modern cruise missiles and are digging the old ballistic stuff out of warehouses to fire into cities.
Losses of soldiers (killed, wounded or surrendered) have been high and troops are being called in from the far east parts of Russia.

The BBC last night was saying the Russians are using missiles because the Ukrainians have kept them too far from Kyiv to use artillery. Side note: a no-fly zone would have no effect on missiles that are launched from Russia.
Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine ‘largely stalled on all fronts’, says UK
Bet the USian media will still tremble “Russians closing in on Kyiv”, just as they nattered on and on about the 40 mile long convoy getting closer every day.

To say nothing about his rant yesterday that Russian “patriots” need to out the “traitors” to “purify” the population. That is some straight-up Stalin/Hitler preparation for genocide.
Even though this news is a credit to the courageous, creative, and heroic efforts by the Ukrainians, I hate to consider what comes next. All evidence from Russia’s actions (both in Ukraine and Syria) suggest that more indiscriminate murder and destruction will follow.
Putin says the West does not understand Russia if we think he will stop. That’s where he’s wrong. We know he won’t stop; we’re just a bit unsure of how to make him stop without starting WWIII.
Russian forces are making ‘minimal progress’ on land sea or air and were continuing to ‘suffer heavy losses’, says Ministry of Defence
Only for decorum I was forced here to say I would not like this prior to the war. Liking is the wrong word for it. The cost the Ukrainians is so high my heart bleeds. But these losses for the Russians are a must…as I said, “a different matter”.

If he’s concerned about his own population’s loyalty, good! The TV news can’t get the “man in the street” to complain. Everyone the Beeb asks is 500% sure Putin is doing the right thing in Ukraine.
Good God! This whole debacle is coming straight out of the department of you can’t make this stuff up! The article reads like something from The BabBee.
Seems like the planners of the “Ukrainian Operation” might have missed that single day at Russian War College when they taught everything.
Vlad’s gonna end up looking like such a fool he might even banish his own self to Siberia.

flashbacks. I remember when the wall went up, to keep people in. I remember watching the TV special about a group who dug a tunnel into East Berlin to break out some friends and relatives.

Our support unit in Geilenkirchen arranged a bus tour to Berlin, a nearby concentration camp (where our bus got stuck), Budapest where you could see the bullet scars on the big church, an old Magyar fortress that would you believe had a flea market where Soviet fur hats and full uniforms were sold for German pfennigs on the DM in value. It was about a five day trip and one night we stayed in former Russian Soviet Officers quarters outside of Berlin with a T-34 tank on a stone pedestal. On the night we stayed in Pest we had dinner in a restaurant where the owner was a former Hungarian Major who had pictures and souvenirs on the wall everywhere. He was a wee bit surly at first but took great pride in his menu and would explain if people made bad choices such as ordering a side when the goulash was a complete meal … oh and very good as was the beer.
During our tour along parts of the wall people were selling chunks with paint as souvenirs. There was one bunker that was so strong that when they tried to blow it up it just moved the whole thing, so they piled gravel and dirt on it and left it there.
An old German farmer showed up and used his tiny but powerful Russian tractor to help get our pink bus out of the mud it was stuck in. We took up a collection and he was very excited! Check Point Charlie was in the process of becoming a museum. Lots more but stuff to do …

Aside: if you get a chance to eat a proper Hungarian goulash, go for it! But then be prepared to be disappointed by American goulash for the rest of your life.
It’s easy to tell Hungarian goulash recipes from American goulash recipes.
An American recipe might list paprika, measured in teaspoons (probably fractional), among the spices.
A Hungarian recipe will list paprika, measured in cups (or equivalent quantities), among the vegetables.
That was a big bus, but also a pretty good sized ditch. I don’t want to know how it got in such a position.

Tourists buses are obviously designed to carry lots of people and stay on hard surfaces? The Dutch driver thought he would be able to turn it around in the parking lot. Incidentally the site was of one the smaller and earliest pre-WWII concentration camps mostly if I recall for dissident Germans who didn’t vote in the proper way or perhaps Communists which may explain how it survived the Cold War? We never really got to see it other than from the outside.
Trying to recall … perhaps SACHSENHAUSEN but not sure.
