US slaps wrist

U.S. will sanction Russian financial firms, sovereign debt and individuals after Ukraine incursion

The sanctions will prohibit American financial institutions from processing transactions for VEB and its military bank. This would effectively cut the banks out of transactions involving U.S. dollars, the global reserve currency.

Biden also announced that the United States will sanction Russia’s sovereign debt.

So far, looks like anything short of rolling tanks into Kiev and overthrowing the government, will bring nothing but a wrist slap. Another win for the rope sellers.

Britain has similar sanctions shutting down financial transactions. Europe promising similar sanctions. Germany blocking gas pipeline.

Yes, its a measured approach. Stiffer sanctions may be imposed later.

Which implies there is a price per square mile for Ukrainian territory taken over. One increment for the first two provinces. Another increment for another increment of land taken, and so on. I saw an old movie, years ago, where they talked about the “death by a thousand cuts”.

The US wouldn’t get upset if someone took over Arizona? It’s only one state. We have plenty more.

We have the two exact same threads.

It implies those two major Russian banks lose a ton of Russian and international business. They are being made an example of in the middle of Moscow. The business class will want to crucify Putin.

Maybe. There are some states I’d pay to have someone take. Alabama comes to mind.

Alabama omits Civil War president Abraham Lincoln in Presidents Day holiday

Presidents Day is a time to celebrate U.S. leaders past and present. The exact details of the holiday vary from state to state, however, and in Alabama, one of the most commonly honored presidents – one who led the country through some of its darkest days- is omitted.

Yes, Alabama doesn’t recognize Abe Lincoln on President’s Day. Instead, to make it plural, it’s about George Washington and Thomas Jefferson (birthday in April.)

Well, OK, then.

From what I understand, the business big shots, the ones that are not dead or in prison, have been enriched by their closeness to Putin. I am sure they realize the cost of getting on the wrong side of Putin, and will back him vigorously.

just because one small group of people select to be stupid does not mean anyone else should follow suit.
